Sending out the BIGGEST congratulations to our very deserving Director of Equine Assisted Psychotherapy, Lillian, on her professorship in the School of Social and Behavioral Sciences at Marist University. Your students are equally as lucky to have you as we are here at EHC ❤️

Dakota rarely picks people over food… so when she chooses to pause her snack and be in our space, we notice. 🤍

Horses have an entire world they could choose to be in, and they don’t have to choose us. That’s what makes their connection so special. When a horse willingly steps into our space, offers their presence, and stays, it’s a pretty incredible kind of trust. 🐴✨

Some weeks leave a mark on all of us.

After a difficult week at the farm filled with loss, uncertainty, and heavy hearts, one of my seven-year-old clients noticed the flowers in my office and asked why they were there.

I told her that it had been a hard week.

As we sat together and talked about what it means when people and animals we care about are hurting, we found ourselves making something with our hands.

By the end of our session, she’d created hearts and the word love, a little reminder she wanted everyone who walked into the office after her to see.

Sometimes healing doesn’t come from having the right words. Sometimes it begins with simply creating a little more love. 🐮🤍

Not every relationship starts with instant connection.

When Lightning Bug first arrived, Ellie wasn’t exactly thrilled. She charged at him, kicked at him, and made it very clear she wasn’t sure about this new little pony.

Now? They’re buddies. 🫶🏻

It’s such a good reminder that new relationships can feel uncomfortable. We don’t always welcome change right away, and sometimes we protect ourselves before we’re ready to connect.

One of the things we talk about often in therapy is that discomfort doesn’t have to mean something isn’t meant to be. Sometimes trust just needs a little time, a little patience, and the chance to grow.

I’m so glad these two gave each other that chance. 🐴❤️

There’s something so special about the way Melvin looks at the world. 🥹🐑

Today, he carefully studied a client’s favorite stuffed animal, as if it deserved his full attention. Melvin gently reminds us that every new thing is worth stopping for. Every little moment deserves curiosity. I think we could all use a little more of that. 🤍

Tank has stolen a lot of hearts and our clients make sure he knows it. 🥜🤎

Thank you to everyone who shows up with stuffies, treats, and little surprises just for him. Watching him happily munch on his beloved peanut butter crackers is sweet enough, but knowing how deeply he’s loved by this community makes it even sweeter.

Our special boy is so very loved, and we couldn’t be more grateful.

One of my favorite parts of this work is when clients come into session bursting with something they can’t wait to share, not just with me, but with their favorite animals, too.

This week, we played music for Tank and introduced him to a cool little boombox. He was sweet, curious, and completely tuned in.

It reminded me that so much of healing happens when we feel witnessed. We all want someone to say, “Show me. Tell me about it. Let me experience this with you.” Therapy isn’t always about fixing or solving. More often, it’s about creating space for someone’s joy, grief, excitement, or fear to be seen and held. Sometimes, having another being bear witness to our experience is exactly what we need.

And Tank, as always, was an excellent listener. 🤍
