Hey, guys! Georges here with a helpful tip. Although the winter storm fell apart for this week, there’s more snow expected next week. It’s important to remember that while we have snow boots, our dogs are out there with their all-weather paws. In bad weather, it’s important to protect their toes from the elements, and the salt/chemicals on the road. Here is a quick read to stay informed.

Learn the right way to protect your pet’s paws and keep them safe this winter.

Dogs taking extra time outside, wandering forever and sniffing at the lawn? It’s grub season and they’re looking for those tasty treats from Mother Nature. While it can certainly be annoying, it will pass soon. Some owners look to stop midnight whining to go back out and forage by giving their dogs melatonin. Please make sure you’ve gotten vet approval, and most importantly - check that label for xylitol. It is added to many brand and is extremely toxic for dogs.
Don’t forget, if your pet needs some extra attention, a vet visit, or pet sitting, Paws & Claws will always be here for you!

With beautiful weather this holiday weekend, there is sure to be some amazing cookouts. Just be aware - some of the food we enjoy can be incredibly toxic to our pets.
⚠️We always hear about grapes and chocolate - but fruit pits are also incredibly poisonous to dogs⚠️
The pits from peaches, plums, cherries, apricots, and mangoes contain a cyanide compound, and if ingested - the dog needs to be immediately taken to an emergency veterinary hospital.
If you have these fruits around your dogs, be vigilant. Make sure the pits can’t be dug out of the trash by a fiendish furry rascal, and that small children are given fruit slices without the pits
Enjoy the holiday. Stay safe, happy, and healthy… especially those with paws and claws.

🌞 With all this heavy heat and sun outside - did you know your pet can get sunburned? Dogs can get sunburned like humans, particularly those with short or light-colored coats, thin skin, or exposed areas such as the nose, ears, and belly. Extended exposure to UV rays can damage their skin, leading to redness, discomfort, and even skin cancer in severe cases.
To protect dogs from sunburn, keep them indoors during peak sun hours from 10 AM to 4 PM. Applying a pet-safe sunscreen on exposed areas and ensuring access to shaded spots and fresh water can help minimize sun exposure and keep them cool while outdoors. 🌞
