The AVMA’s Unsung Heroes awards program, launched in 2023, shines a light on veterinary team members whose contributions and commitment are often less celebrated than others'. These individuals include veterinary technicians, assistants, customer service representatives, kennel workers, and groomers who have embodied a level of commitment that surpasses expectations.

This year, 10 honorees received an Unsung Hero Award for their dedication and hard work in supporting the smooth functioning of veterinary practices. Among the honorees, Charlene Wandzilak, director of talent acquisition and vice president of people and culture at Heart and Paw, a chain of 30 veterinary clinics with headquarters in Berwyn, Pennsylvania, was selected as the national winner.
