Compassionate Animal Rescue Efforts of Dutchess County - CARE of DC CARE of DC is a "No Kill" organization. We take in animals that are "at risk" and try to find forever homes for them.

CARE of DC is a "No Kill", non profit organization. Our goal is to save as many animals from euthanasia as possible. We take our animals from high kill shelters and work to rehabilitate them and find forever homes. Our organization works closely with other rescues and shelters that share in our values. We have developed a strong network of "no kill" partners and we assist them on a regular basis.

We take in corporate donations, warehouse them and then work to distribute the donated food and supplies to our partners in need.

Meet Meryl! 🖤🐾

Meryl is a 4-month-old Lab mix, with the sweet, affectionate personality Labs are known and loved for. While we can’t say for sure what she’s mixed with, one thing we do know is that she is an incredibly kind, loving puppy.

Meryl enjoys making new friends, soaking up attention, and being wherever her people are. She’s still a puppy, so she’s learning all the important things that come with growing up, but she has a wonderful temperament and is eager to please.

There’s something about Ironhide that just makes people smile.

Maybe it’s his happy little puppy wiggles. Maybe it’s the way he thinks every dog he meets should automatically be his best friend. Or maybe it’s because he’s at that perfect age where everything is exciting and every day is a new adventure.

Ironhide is 3 month’s old and is a playful, friendly puppy who loves spending time with other dogs and soaking up all the attention he can get. He’s curious about the world, quick to make friends, and has the kind of sweet personality that makes you look forward to coming home.

We aren’t sure what breeds make up this handsome boy, but we’re guessing he’ll be around 40 pounds or so when fully grown.

Right now, Ironhide is waiting for a family of his own—a family to teach him, grow with him, and love him through all the puppy stages and beyond. In return, he’ll give you a lifetime of loyalty, laughter, and unconditional love.

Meet Skipper!
This adorable 2-month-old mixed breed puppy is looking for a family of his very own. Just one look at that sweet face and those puppy-dog eyes, and you’ll understand why everyone who meets him falls head over heels.

Skipper is a happy, playful little guy who loves making new friends. He’s done great with the other puppies he’s met and is always ready for a game, an adventure, or a cuddle when playtime is over.

We don’t know exactly what breeds make up this handsome boy, but based on his current size, we estimate he’ll grow into a medium-sized dog, likely around 40–50 pounds.

Like all puppies, Skipper is looking for a family ready to help him learn, grow, and experience all the wonderful things life has to offer. In return, he’ll provide plenty of laughs, love, and puppy kisses.

Meet Sailor! ⚓️

Sailor is about 2 months old and looking for a family of his own.

He’s a happy, playful puppy who spends his days wrestling with his siblings, investigating absolutely everything, and perfecting the art of puppy naps. We aren’t sure what his breed mix is, currently he is about 11 pounds but we estimate he will be a medium sized dog once he’s fully grown (around 40 pounds)

Like all puppies, Sailor will need a family ready for training, socialization, and all the fun that comes with raising a young pup. The puppy stage goes by fast, and Sailor would love to spend it in a home instead of waiting at the shelter.

🐾 Meet Renegade! 🐾

Renegade is a handsome 1½-year-old pup weighing around 50 pounds who is ready to find his forever family!

This sweet boy already knows several commands, including sit, paw, and lay down. He also appears to be potty trained, making the transition into a new home even easier.

Renegade’s favorite thing? Spending time with his people. Whether it’s relaxing on the couch or snuggling up after a long day, he’s happiest when he’s close to the ones he loves. His affectionate personality and gentle nature make him a wonderful companion.

At this time, we are unsure how Renegade does with other dogs. If there is a dog in the home, a meet and greet will be required to help ensure a good match.

All Teddy wants for his birthday is a family ❤️‍🩹

This cutie celebrated his 4th birthday today in his foster home! Toy shopping, doggy cake & fun with his foster siblings. What a day!

Ted is 4 years old, completely house trained & thriving in his foster home! He would do best in a home with no young children and would thrive as an only pup, although he loves playing with his doggy friends 🐾

Shadow is almost 5 months old, and he’s spent 69 days growing up in a shelter.

While other puppies his age are learning what it’s like to have a family, a couch to nap on, and people to call their own, Shadow has been waiting.

Since arriving in March, he’s been making the best of shelter life. He loves other dogs, is always ready to play, and has the kind of happy, goofy puppy personality that makes people smile. Despite spending so much of his puppyhood in a kennel, he hasn’t let it dull his spirit.

We aren’t sure what Shadow is mixed with, but he currently weighs around 25 pounds and will likely be about 50ish pounds when fully grown.

He hasn’t met any cats yet, so we can’t say how he’d do with them, but he’s been wonderful with every dog he’s met.

More than anything, Shadow deserves to spend the rest of his puppy months where puppies belong, in a home, making memories with a family of his own.
