Compassionate Animal Rescue Efforts of Dutchess County - CARE of DC CARE of DC is a "No Kill" organization. We take in animals that are "at risk" and try to find forever homes for them.

CARE of DC is a "No Kill", non profit organization. Our goal is to save as many animals from euthanasia as possible. We take our animals from high kill shelters and work to rehabilitate them and find forever homes. Our organization works closely with other rescues and shelters that share in our values. We have developed a strong network of "no kill" partners and we assist them on a regular basis.

We take in corporate donations, warehouse them and then work to distribute the donated food and supplies to our partners in need.

🎄 Day 7 of 12 Days Home for the Holidays 🎄

Today we’re highlighting not just one pup, but a group of incredibly special dogs❤️

This week, we were granted custody of a group of dogs rescued from a puppy mill breeder where the owner has been charged with cruelty. These dogs have survived more than any animal ever should. They came to us from our rescue partner in NC after being confiscated and despite their past, they are all unbelievably sweet, affectionate, and gentle.

They lean into every bit of kindness, soaking up love as if they’ve been waiting their whole lives for it. Their resilience is humbling, and their capacity to trust again is nothing short of amazing.

Day 7 is about survival, second chances, and hope. This holiday season, these pups are ready to leave their past behind and start a new chapter filled with safety, warmth, and love. ❤️

Meet Honey 🍯 (though we’ve been affectionately calling her Pittipottomus because… just look at her 😅)

We should know very soon because she looks like she’s about to pop any day now.

Honey came to us from an overcrowded shelter in North Carolina, where she was heartbreakingly placed on the euthanasia list simply due to lack of space. Thankfully, one of our amazing rescue partners stepped in just in time and got her out — and she was sent straight to us for safety and care.

Now this gentle mama is resting, loved, and getting everything she needs as we wait to welcome her little ones into the world. We’re so grateful she’s here, and we can’t wait to see how many tiny surprises she’s been hiding in that belly 💕

Stay tuned for puppy updates… we have a feeling there are a lot 👀🐾

Meet Toffee! Toffee is a petite 3 year old girl weighing around 9 lbs who came to us from a hoarding situation. She can be a bit shy when first meeting new people, but don’t let that fool you, once she warms up, her gentle and loving personality melts hearts.

She does well with other dogs and would thrive in a calm, patient home where she can continue learning how wonderful life can be. Watching Toffee discover safety, comfort, and love has been incredibly special.

🎄 12 Days Home for the Holidays – Day 5 🎄

Meet Josie 💕

For Day 5, we’re shining the spotlight on Josie a 3 year old, sweet, resilient girl who’s come such a long way. Josie is great with other dogs and loves nothing more than splashing around and going for a swim. If your idea of fun includes water and wagging tails, she’s your kind of dog 🌊🐾

Josie had a rough start dealing with food allergies that left her itchy and missing fur, but once she was put on the right food, everything changed. She’s now feeling so much better, and her coat has grown back beautifully, a true reflection of how happy and healthy she is today.

We’re unsure how Josie does with cats, but she does get along with a bunny! She’d love a home willing to continue her special diet and give her the love she deserves.

On this fifth day of our holiday countdown, Josie is wishing for one thing: a forever home where she can keep thriving. Maybe her holiday miracle is you 🎁💖

🎄 12 Days Home for the Holidays – Day 4🎄

Meet Buddha, a 1 year old mixed breed with a big, blocky head, strong muscles, and the softest heart you’ll ever meet. He’s the perfect mix of confidence and sweetness!

Buddha loves tug-of-war, running around the yard with pure joy, and then curling up for a well-earned nap. He’s potty trained, knows his basic commands, and truly wants to do the right thing. He’s still learning that his strength doesn’t have to lead the way on leash, but with patience, guidance, and love, he’s already showing how eager he is to learn.

What really makes Buddha special is his heart. He is a total moosh, affectionate, loyal, and happiest when he’s close to his people. He wants to be near you, lean into you, and feel like he belongs. He’d love a playful canine friend, but he would be just as content being your one and only, soaking up every ounce of love you have to give.

Buddha isn’t just looking for a home,
he’s looking for his person. Someone to choose him, guide him, and love him for the sweet, goofy soul he is. If you’re ready for a dog who will fill your home with laughter, warmth, and unconditional love, Buddha is waiting… and he’s so ready to be yours. 💛

🎄 12 Days Home for the Holidays – Day 3 🎄

Meet Tippy, a 3 year old mixed breed who’s as gorgeous, sweet, and tenacious as they come. With her big heart and bright energy, she’s truly one of a kind.

Tippy knows her basic commands and lives for a game of catch. Don’t let her sweetness fool you! She’s incredibly athletic and can jump waist-high from a standstill!.

Once Tippy chooses you, it’s instant and forever. Her loyalty runs deep, and it takes almost nothing to win her heart, she gives her love back tenfold. 💕

We believe Tippy would do best as your one and only pup, but she has more than enough love to fill a home all by herself. Tippy does well with kids 11+ (possibly younger, though not yet tested). While the rescue environment can be tough for her, off-site she truly shines, playful, confident, and happy. With patience and love, her forever family will see just how special she is.

On this third day of 12 Days Home for the Holidays, Tippy is wishing for just one thing. A family to call her own.

Day 2 is all about Lady! 🐾

Lady is a 4 year young, English Bulldog with the heart of an adventurer and the soul of a professional snuggler. She loves hiking, running, swimming, and power walking! But when the day winds down, she’s all about couch time, cozy naps, and snuggling up with her favorite humans.

Lady would do best as the only pet in the home, where she can soak up all the love, attention, and holiday magic for herself. What she wants most this season isn’t another toy or treat, it’s a family, a warm couch, and a place where she truly belongs.

She’s ready to wake up on Christmas morning knowing she’s home, safe, and loved forever.

🎄 12 Days Home for the Holidays 🎄

For the next 12 days, we’ll be featuring some of our amazing adoptable dogs who are dreaming of a place to call home this holiday season. Each pup has their own story, personality, and wish list but they all share the same hope: a family to love them forever. Up first is Benson!

There’s a heaviness in his eyes that’s impossible to miss.
We’ve watched him sit quietly, hoping today might be the day someone stops, kneels down, and chooses him.

We used to wonder why Benson always looked so sad…until we learned he’s got his driver’s license and is just waiting to go cruising with his person.
He wants that simple joy, looking out the window, music playing, someone’s hand resting on his head telling him he’s loved.

He’s only a year old, and his heart is so soft.
He just needs a home where he can be the only pet and soak up the love he’s been waiting so long for.

As the holidays approach, all he wants is warmth.
A couch. A blanket. A heartbeat beside him.
Someone who won’t pass him by again.
