The barking starts at the window, tails are going, and everybody has something to say.

Then there’s Cinnamon… showing those little teeth because that’s how she smiles. 😂❤️

Next comes treat time, and suddenly everyone remembers how to sit perfectly and look completely innocent.

But Cinnamon knows exactly what she really wants — her spot in Mom’s lap.

A little loud. A little chaotic. And filled with old dogs who finally know they are home.

Nine years ago, I found Cache on Cache Road.

Someone had moved away and left him behind. He wandered out into the road in front of a restaurant, and I stopped.

The rest, as they say, is history.

Cache has been beside me for nine years now.

Every dog who comes to the sanctuary has a story. Some were abandoned. Some grew old and were no longer wanted. Some simply needed someone to choose them.

I love every one of these dogs, and I used to think I was the one saving them.

But somewhere along the way, I realized the truth.

They saved me.

Cache was one of the first to teach me that. ❤️

Annie has claimed this window as her favorite spot in the house. She can spend hours watching the birds, the breeze, and the world go by.

It’s a simple reminder that happiness doesn’t have to be complicated. For a senior dog, a safe home, a sunny window, and someone to love them is everything.

Today was a good day at WH Pletch Senior Dog Sanctuary.

Maggie had her follow-up appointment to have her sutures removed, and the news was exactly what we had been hoping for. It looks like she is going to be okay.

She may be missing her tail, but I would choose her life over her tail every single time. Having her here with us is what matters most. Ugh

Cinnamon has made a full recovery and is back to enjoying one of her favorite places—the sofa, where she happily spends her afternoons napping like the senior lady she is.

The past three weeks have been a long journey for Maggie, filled with worry, surgeries, and healing. Through it all, your prayers, kind messages, donations, and encouragement carried us on the difficult days.

From the bottom of my heart, thank you for standing beside these two precious seniors. Your support means more than words can express.

Today I made another trip to Norman to continue Gracie’s training with Matthias Zehfuss. Every session reminds me just how far she has come. She is learning to trust me, and more importantly, she now looks to me for direction in almost every situation. That trust has taken a lot of time and patience to build.

Part of Gracie’s training is learning to experience the world. We’ve been visiting outdoor restaurants, sitting on patios, and simply watching life go by. Even in this Oklahoma heat, these outings are important. Right now, she isn’t comfortable with strangers and doesn’t want people to pet her. A kind college student recently asked if they could, and I had to politely say no. Protecting Gracie and respecting her boundaries is part of helping her continue to heal.

Many people ask if Gracie will ever be available for adoption. The answer is no.

Gracie has experienced too much, and despite the progress she’s making, she has challenges that would make it very likely she would end up back in a shelter. That is exactly why WH Pletch Sanctuary exists. Not every dog is meant to move on to another home. Some need a permanent place where they are understood, accepted, and loved exactly as they are.

Gracie has found that place.

Please continue to cheer her on as she learns that the world isn’t always a scary place. Every small victory is a big step for a dog who is finally beginning to trust again. Lizzy

Maggie had her follow-up appointment today, and her bandages finally came off. Unfortunately, the news wasn’t quite what we had hoped for. Right now, things could still go either direction. Our greatest prayer is that there is no more necrosis and that her little tail can finally begin to heal.

Please continue to keep sweet Maggie in your prayers. These senior dogs have given a lifetime of unconditional love, and they deserve every chance we can give them. They have all been through so much, yet they continue to amaze me with their resilience and gentle spirits.

Even with her cone on, Maggie still proudly brings me her favorite toy. It melts my heart every single time. She doesn’t know she’s recovering—she just knows she wants to love and be loved.

Thank you for standing beside Maggie and all of our seniors. Your prayers, encouragement, and support mean more than words can say.

Maggie’s Update ❤️

It’s been a long day of watching the clock, wondering how my sweet Maggie was doing, but this afternoon I finally got to bring her home.

The surgery was much more extensive than we had hoped. The infection and necrotic tissue had spread so far that the veterinarian had to amputate her tail all the way back to the last vertebra. It’s hard to believe that what started as a simple sebaceous cyst turned into a full tail amputation. We are praying this is finally the end of this painful journey for her.

Tonight my kitchen countertop looks more like a pharmacy than a kitchen—with antibiotics, ear medication, Epsom salt soaks, probiotics, pain medication, and anti-anxiety medication. The goal is to keep Maggie comfortable and just mildly sedated so she can rest and heal without injuring herself.

We even took matters into our own hands and padded her cone with pipe insulation to make it softer in case she bumps into something. Every little thing we can do to keep her comfortable is worth it.

Thank you to everyone who has prayed, checked in, donated, and encouraged us. The past week and a half has been one of the hardest we’ve faced. Your kindness has carried us through more than you know.

Please continue praying that Maggie heals well and that this surgery finally puts an end to her pain.

Some days, being in rescue breaks your heart.

Tomorrow morning, Maggie’s tail will have to be amputated due to necrosis. I am completely devastated and can’t stop crying because I know my sweet girl is in so much pain. She has been on pain medication, but it simply hasn’t been enough.

These dogs are not “just dogs” to me. They are my family. Every decision I make is because I love them and want to give them the best chance possible. Tomorrow, I’ll have to put my own emotions aside and be strong for Maggie and for the other seniors who are depending on me.

Please also keep Cinnamon in your prayers. Today she received B-12 and B-complex injections to help stimulate her appetite, and we are starting a new antibiotic for her mastitis. If she doesn’t begin eating and drinking soon, we’ll have to start giving her fluids. She has been through so much, and my heart aches for her too.

Some weeks in rescue feel overwhelming. Losing Scarlett, watching Maggie face another surgery, and now worrying about Cinnamon has stretched me emotionally and financially. But I will continue fighting for every one of them because they deserve nothing less.
