It's been a long while since we've had any pups get adopted. We are so very excited.

Remember the German Shepherd pup that was picked up a week ago and taken to the pound?
WELL, The awesome officer that got the call about him roaming that picked him up decided he couldn't bear the thought of not taking this young fella home.

PUPDATE: We have found a temporary foster for Rory. Thank you all for your help.

📣TEMPORARY FOSTER NEEDED📣

For our sweet girl Rory.
Her foster family is going on vacation June 23rd to 29th. And we'd rather her not have to stay at the shelter.

Rory is up to date on vaccines and spayed. She's currently going through heartworm treatment, so the family would need to be laid back and not allow her run around.

💔This is the heartbreaking part of rescue.💔

It’s never ending, and we are tired. 😔

The cold hard truth is that there are 6️⃣ (SIX) volunteers that solely run this shelter. Thats 6️⃣ people who cover 14 shifts each week. Some are only able to help once a week. That’s a tough load to carry when each one of us is juggling everything in our personal lives as well. We have been hit hard this past year with illness, surgeries and SO many bumps in the road.

🚫Our Intake Remains CLOSED.🚫 We have to pull from the city pound FIRST and cannot even do that at this time.

The ❗️ONLY ❗️way to help us with this situation is to ADOPT one of our current dogs or FOSTER one of them. We know these dogs inside and out. We would love to help match you with the perfect friend. 💗

We have dogs suitable for all lifestyles and family situations. We have dogs that LOVE KIDS. We have dogs that are super low energy and would be great for an older owner that needs a quiet companion. Active and need a running buddy? We have those too!

⛈️Currently it is STORMING ⛈️ with flood and severe weather warnings and we have 3️⃣ (THREE) dogs sitting at the city pound. There is NO shelter except for igloo dog houses. They are on concrete and they are not let out of those kennels. So they sit. 💔Our hearts are broken but we just cannot take on the care of one more dog at this point in time without placing some of our current residents

We need YOU.🫵🏻 Fostering is a commitment. Yes, we understand. But we provide every expense. You provide routine, love and a safe place.

💘MADDY MONDAY💘

Remember Madeline?

💗Madeline is the German Shepherd that the City of Waller workers along with Waller Police Department officers and Ourselves worked tirelessly for over two weeks to catch. She was finally caught on Memorial Day. 🇺🇸

🩹She has been treated for ulcerations to her front paws 🐾 and has been recuperating/ decompressing at our facility.

Since arriving with us, Maddy has gone from being very wary of people to making friends with our volunteers and some of the pups at the shelter. 🥰

She's coming out of her shell and is showing us that she's a very fun and lovable pup. She minds very well and has had training at some point. She sits, walks on a leash well, kennels well with no messes, loves car rides and is gentle to handle.🐕

Maddy does have some quirks as all dogs do, especially these breeds that tend to be more sensitive to the environment around them. She doesn't like dogs aggressively confronting her and will bark back (as expected), she seems to be fine with calm friendly dogs, but we have not paired her with any this early on. She is wary of new people but does warm up to most. She is much more hesitant around men but has been receptive to a few that she has met.

She needs a routine safe place with consistency. 💪 We have worked hard to get her past the initial stages of recuperation, but she is not able to decompress in our shelter environment. She is faced with too many new people on a daily basis as well as surrounded by some high energy dogs.🐶

💥To ensure Maddy’s success, we need to place her with a committed FOSTER or ADOPTER as soon as possible.
This person will have to be experienced with this type of dog.

Maddy is an unbelievable pup and would make the BEST companion to the right person. She needs routine, a consistent training regimen and a consistent environment. She is medium to low energy and loves to be around the people she has befriended.

🌞With Summer time in full force, We wanted to share some pet safety information.

🛑 NEVER leave your pets in a hot car when it's not running, even with the windows cracked open. It's still too hot. And if you think it's okay to do so. You sit in the car yourself. If you'd rather not do so. Leave your pets at home. A pet can have a heat stroke and pass in a matter of minutes.

🛑 When taking your pets for a walk on the hot concrete.Take your shoes off first and walk on it yourself. If it's too hot on your feet, it's too hot on your pets paws. Walk them in the grass.

🤩THANKFUL THURSDAY🤩

We'd like to give a HUGE Shout Out to all the amazing people that have donated, continue to donate, Volunteer, Foster and Follow our page to help us be able to care for each pup that comes into our care.

We couldn't continue doing this without you.

💞A pupdate on our new girl, Madeliene. AKA Maddy.. She is 3yrs old and 83lbs.

She spent the night at the vet Tuesday for some Stoneside TLC and decompression time.

We decided for her safety to have her sedated to be able to do a full body check. To ease her of getting over stressed. She did Amazing.
She has ulcers on her paws which is causing her pain and making it hard for her to walk. She's on antibiotics and pain meds. Its believed she is not spayed 😪, so we've scheduled to get that done soon.
She is heartworm NEGATIVE!! We are so very excited about that.

She is a scared girl, so its going to take us time to get her to fully trust us. So far, she's doing great.

💗We will celebrate this Memorial Day with a Miracle!!

💞Her name is Madeliene💞

She's the German Shepherd we've been after the last TWO weeks. She's seemed to outsmart us each time. UNTIL TODAY!!

With the help of some awesome people at Oxford At The Ranch Apartments and a couple of Waller Police Department 's Finest. Officer Alvarado and Officer Glick. Our Director LaFonda and Kayla a shelter staff member. We were able to get her trapped in a stair well at the apartments and catch her. After several hours of chasing her around town this morning. 🙏

She is injured and will require a vet trip as soon as we can get her in this week.

She is chipped and the "owner" has been called and a message left. Only downfall the chip hasn't been updated since 2022.
The records show she will be 4yrs old in November.

PUPDATE 5/21/25 @ 1pm:
This girl is very smart. City decided to pull the live trap, because she's not falling for it. And she now knows the city workers trucks and our Directors truck, so she takes off. She has shown to be harmless, she's very scared of everyone. Especially men.
We plan to give her some time to settle before trying our hand to catch her again.
She's hanging out at a families home after a long day of walking around town. We are in hopes the family can gain her trust and get their hands on her, so we can get her the care she needs. And show her the love she deserves.

This scared girl showed up yesterday. She's roaming the block between Main St, Green St, Fieldstore Rd, Hamilton and Mills St.

She does not appear to be aggressive, just very scared. We tried to catch her yesterday with the help of Waller Police Department and our City of Waller Animal Control but she was too afraid.

DO NOT APPROACH and DO NOT FEED her. We have a trap set out to catch her. For her safety.

She does have what looks like a red collar on.

Shelter Overview

Waller Animal Shelter & Rescue is ran strictly by Volunteers and is 100% Donation Based.

The Shelter is Currently being overseen by the Director, LaFonda Shaffer. Assistant Director, Erin Chelf and their team of amazing volunteers.

The shelter is the first and only no-kill shelter in Waller County. Currently we have been saving animals that have hit their 72hr stray hold before they hit their euthanasia time with the City of Waller Pound. Once the dogs hold is up, We then get them from the pound, vaccinate her/him and place the pup up for adoption. They are Spayed/Neuter at a discount after adoption.

The shelter does accept donations and are grateful to those that would like to Volunteer. If you are interested in either, please send us a message and we will get you to the correct link.
