🐾 Puppies Development Update! 🐾
Last Friday, our puppies completed their Neonatal Period (birth to 14 days).
Since Day 3, we’ve been doing Early Neurological Stimulation (ENS), and today (Day 16) marks the final day.
Why ENS?
Research shows that small, gentle stresses during this critical window help puppies grow into stronger, healthier, better-adjusted adults.
Benefits of ENS include:
Greater tolerance to stress
Stronger heart rate and heartbeat
A more resilient nervous system
Improved resistance to disease
Reduced emotional reactivity
The 5 ENS Exercises we did:
Tactile Stimulation (light touch to activate the neurological system)
Head Held Up (encourages blood regulation)
Head Held Down (stimulates neurological balance)
Supine Position (laying the puppy on its back to challenge the system)
Thermal Stimulation (briefly placed on a cool surface, like the scale during daily weigh-ins)
ENS is a once-in-a-lifetime gift we can give only between 3 and 16 days old.
Now Entering the Transitional Period (14–21 days)
This period begins when the puppies' eyes open and ends when they respond to sounds.
A few pups have already started to open their eyes and are wobbling around on their first little steps.
Next Step: Sound Habituation
To support their developing hearing, we have started playing classical music in the puppy room.
Studies show that classical music can:
Decrease agitation
Increase social behavior
Help dogs settle faster and stay calmer
We’re so excited for all the changes happening right now and can’t wait to share more milestones with you soon!
