In Loving Memory of Copper 🤍
On June 23, 2011, Copper arrived at Iron Gait Percherons Draft Horse Sanctuary in heartbreaking condition. With a body score of only 1.5 and struggling with occasional seizures, his future was uncertain.
From the moment he stepped onto our sanctuary, he was no longer alone.
For the next 15 years, Copper knew only love, patience, gentle hands, full bellies, and the promise that he would never be forgotten again. Every special need was met with compassion, not obligation. He wasn't just another rescue—he was family.
Today, with heavy hearts, we helped our sweet boy cross the Rainbow Bridge. Though our hearts ache, we find comfort knowing his body is whole again, his pain is gone, and he is running free with all of our beloved sanctuary herd who went before him.
Run free, sweet Copper.
May your mane dance in the wind, your hooves thunder across Heaven's green pastures, and your spirit forever remind us why we opened our hearts in the first place.
You will be forever loved, forever missed, and forever a part of Iron Gait.
Until we meet again... run free with our herd in Heaven. ♥️🐴

Goodbye, Sweet Olive 💜
Today we said goodbye to the little girl who started it all.
Olive was my very first donkey, and because of her, so many others would one day find love, safety, and a forever home. She carried a piece of my heart from the very beginning.
Her coffin bone had rotated to the point that the pain became more than she could bear. We kept her comfortable for as long as we could, but the greatest act of love was to let her go with dignity and peace.
Run free now, sweet girl. Your pain is gone, your steps are light again, and I know Junior is waiting just beyond the Rainbow Bridge to welcome you home.
Thank you for every bray, every nuzzle, and every precious memory. You will forever be part of the foundation of Iron Gait and forever part of my heart.
Until we meet again... run free, beautiful Olive.
You were deeply loved, and you always will be. 🌈🫏💜

Tonight we said goodbye to Jazz.
After his fight with cancer, he crossed over peacefully and with the dignity he deserved.
Jazz was more than a horse—he was family. A gentle, steady soul who brought so much love and calm to everyone around him.
We are so grateful for every moment we had with him.

Run free, sweet boy. No more pain—just peace.
You will always be loved and deeply missed.
