Chandler and Cider could use a Friend.

Though from different liters, they are each about 3 months old. Chandler is the more chatty of the two, and we think he'd do best in a home that already has a cat. He needs a Joey or Ross to really thrive in life. A Rachel, Monica or Phoebe would work too. 🤣

Cider on the other hand loves to play and would do great in a house alone or with other pets.

🎉🐾 Important Announcement! 🐾🎉

The Humane Society of Walden will be CLOSED to the public this Saturday, October 18th, because our amazing Manager, Ryan, is getting MARRIED!!! ❤️

Staff will be available for a few hours in the morning by phone, and you can always reach us by email at [email protected].

We’ll reopen Sunday from 12–4 PM.

This sweet girl has a penchant for drama.

What started as a little cough progressed a bit, so off to the vet she went on Monday. Turns out it was just a little inflammation of her trachea, she's on the mend now!

Huey has really come out of his shell. He is quite a brave & confident cat. He is a big love bug and loves his four legged brother. After taking over his four-legged brothers crate when he first came he now runs the house.

🐾 Two of our latest kitten additions 🐾

These little nuggets, about 4 weeks old, came in yesterday and have already been assessed, weighed, and settled into a foster home where they'll get lots of love and care.

In another week or two, they’ll come back to the shelter for a weight check and to begin vaccinations (they need to be at least 1 pound first!).

We’re currently running low on dry kitten food and could also use a few more Snuggle Safe discs — the microwaveable heating pads that keep our tiniest kittens warm and cozy.

The weather can't keep us down! 🌧️

Meg, our Canine Enrichment Specialist makes sure every day is special for our pups, even rainy days. Staff use any available indoor space to make sure our dogs are mentally and physically active daily. We’re working toward a more permanent indoor enrichment space as part of our Capital Campaign.

Our Story

Since 1974, the staff and volunteers of the Humane Society of Walden (HSW) have provided quality care for many orphaned pets while they wait for their forever homes. The Humane Society of Walden is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to helping orphaned cats and dogs. Our no kill safe haven serves the communities of Montgomery, Walden, Maybrook, Pine Bush, Shawangunk, and Mamakating. However, if we have the space we will not turn away pets in need. Shelter staff sees that each of our animals receive the very best possible care. Our haven has dog kennels with outside access. Thanks to the staff and volunteers the dog kennels were completely renovated in the Summer of 2017. Outside kennels and an onsite dog park provide space for the dogs to get exercise. Adoptability training classes are held weekly and with volunteer participation dogs are learning basic commands. In 2016 the Walk in the Park Dog Walk Program was introduced and was an instant success. Volunteers are matched with a dog and meet offsite at Winding Hills Park where they enjoy time away from the shelter(weather permitting). HSW has several cat rooms; General Walk around, FIV+ room and FeLv+ room (Leukemia). Unless medically necessary (on a special diet, in need of daily meds etc), most cats are free roaming and all enjoy the pleasure of scratching posts, comfy beds, and toys! The General Walk Around allows access to the outside in a completely enclosed pen with many lofty perches.

Mission Statement:

The Humane Society of Walden believes that all animals have a natural right to humane treatment including proper care, respect and safe shelter. Our primary mission is to provide care while finding permanent, loving homes for the many animals that come to our door.
