Since 1974, the staff and volunteers of the Humane Society of Walden have provided quality care for many orphaned pets while they wait for their forever homes. Our NO KILL safe haven serves the communities of Montgomery, Walden, Maybrook, Pine Bush, Shawangunk, and Mamakating, but will not turn away pets from across the country in need.

Our new CAT-TASTIC Raffle Basket is packed with $150+ worth of goodies for you and your feline.

The star of the show is a 20-inch handmade crochet orange cat from Michelle’s Yarn Barn, surrounded by cat toys, treats, fleece blankets, mugs, a cat canvas, yarn, an oversized wand toy and more!

💙 Our longtimer George could use a little extra love.

Yesterday, George presented with a high fever, so off he went to our friends at Newburgh Vet. His vet is hopeful that we’re dealing with a virus that should run its course, but we’re currently waiting on PCR results and George will be spending the night there for observation and some extra TLC.

His anticipated vet bill? Around $1,800.

If you’d like to help with George’s unexpected medical expenses, any amount would be greatly appreciated. ❤️

📬 Just this once, Roscoe is opening his famous mailbox to George mail!

If you’d like to mail or drop off a get-well card for George, Roscoe has agreed to share his postal services and will personally make sure it gets delivered. Staff will pay his handling fee in Pupperoni.

🐱 **QUICK KITTEN CLARIFICATION!** 🐱

Our blackjack vibes are already improving… we’re down to 12 kittens onsite at Walden!🎉

One clarification from our original post: **not all 12 kittens are currently housed in public viewing areas.**

With so many kittens in our care, we’re temporarily utilizing some staff-only spaces due to space constraints and to help reduce the risk of cross-contamination.

🐾 **Kittens in our lobby and public walk-around rooms can be visited without an approved application.**

🐾 **If a kitten is housed in a staff-only area, we do require a processed adoption application before we can coordinate an introduction.**

That’s why we strongly recommend applying before you visit. It gives our staff time to process your application and means we can introduce you to more of the kittens who may be a good fit — not just the ones currently housed in public areas.

We’ve also relocated some available kittens to our Middletown and Monroe PetSmart locations to make a little more room at Walden.

Our staff is doing the very best they can to care for these
kittens, keep everyone healthy, process applications, coordinate meet-and-greets, and get these little ones into forever homes as quickly as possible. ❤️

So yes, we still have LOTS of kittens looking for homes. You just may not see every available kitten when you walk through the shelter.

Update on Bing, now Brody!

My children were absolutely surprised when we brought home Bing Crosby yesterday as a surprise. My middle daughter actually cried.

Bings new name is Brody, his sister Chloe is unsure of him so far and it’s hiding in my bedroom we will try to introduce them slowly.

💙 As August comes to a close, we have one more wish: a home for Jinx.

Remember Jinx’s story from earlier this month?

At 20+ years old, Jinx arrived at HSW after his longtime owner faced a housing situation that meant she could no longer keep the cat she had loved for more than two decades. There wasn’t an easy answer that day, but we knew we couldn’t turn him away.

Now we’d really like the next chapter of Jinx’s story to begin. ❤️

Jinx deserves to spend his golden years somewhere other than a shelter with a comfy bed, a quiet place to nap and someone to call his own.

If you’ve ever thought about opening your home to a senior cat, this is your guy. You may not get 20 years with Jinx, but you can make whatever time he has ahead pretty wonderful.
