We hope you're staying safe and dry, Oʻahu! The current forecast projects the most severe impacts from this Kona low storm are expected this evening and again Friday into Saturday, with projected thunderstorms, high winds and flash flooding. Please stay informed by downloading the HNL Alert app and be sure that your emergency preparedness includes your pets.
If you have not yet put together an emergency kit for your pets, now is the time. Before conditions worsen, be sure to have a 14-day supply of food and water in sealed containers, a crate or carrier for each pet, a leash and collar with current contact information, medications, vaccine records, and current photos of your pet. While all emergency shelters on Oʻahu are pet-friendly, they may not have supplies on hand for your pet, so it's best to come prepared in the event you need to evacuate. The City and County of Honolulu maintains a map of all 38 potential refuge area locations. Learn more at HawaiianHumane.org/disaster-ready.
In the meantime, please note that the Schuler Family Foundation and Jones Family Community Dog Park will be closed through Wednesday, March 18 due to flooding and ponding in the park. We appreciate your patience as we prioritize everyone's safety.
If you are riding out the storm at home and your area has not previously experienced flooding, we are still looking for Couch Crashers fosters for our shelter dogs. Stop by either our Mōʻiliʻili Campus or Kosasa Family Campus at Hoʻopili today, and our Adoptions Representatives will help you find a shelter dog to bring home through the week. It is good for them, and it helps us stay ready for animals who may need us most in the days ahead.
