Avalo's Feline Hybrid and Exotic Sanctuary

Avalo's Feline Hybrid and Exotic Sanctuary We are a Non-profit Sanctuary home for domestic hybrid and small exotic felines. Today Avalo feeds, houses and heals over 350 domestic, feral and hybrid cats.

In 2013, Michelle Donlick Altmeyer developed a section of her 16-acre horse farm to create Avalo Cat Sanctuary, a 501c3 nonprofit organization caring for sick and homeless felines. Michelle’s deep compassion and tireless dedication keep Avalo going, but it takes more than love to pay for food, electricity, supplies and vet bills. Your help is needed to secure Avalo’s future as a place of hope and

sanctuary to kittens, adult cats and exotic felines. Visit the website to learn how you can support Avalo as a volunteer, through in-kind donations or financial donations via by check, PayPal or credit card: https://avalocatsanctuary.com/donate

Did you know?

We have a special Feline Leukemia house and currently care for about 10 precious souls. Cats with leukemia usually live a short life but sometimes they can live up to 6 years or longer. We try to give them peace and comfort and a normal cat life here at Avalo.

We need your help! Can you donate just $5 a month? This would go a long way to help us care for these afflicted babies with vet visits when needed and good quality food and enrichment.

I don't always look so beautiful, but when I do, wait, I always look so beautiful!

Who knows what kind of cats these are?? Meet the Lykoi otherwise known as werewolf cats. Originally they were spotted as feral in colonies all around the world and when they were collected nobody knew what was wrong with them because they were looking very sparse in their coat. After much testing, DNA showed that it was a gene and this is how they are supposed to look! They are not connected to the Sphinx or any other hairless breed. Interesting fact is that they molt and they do not shed. In the summer sometimes they go almost naked in the winter they fill back in you can see the difference in the two pictures between each cat - a full coat (Bad Aussie) and a half molted coat (Simon)!

Good morning! Hello from Woody Serval :)
He wants you to know that any donations received will also contribute towards buying him his raw diet (chicken, quail, rabbit and even local squirrel) and he is so thankful for that! He can't stand commercial food or kibble 🫥 plus he's an obligate carnivore!

The Rescue Food Bank has been out of food for awhile and we are desperately in need! We need Purina One dry, Friskies canned for the seniors/hospice/leukemia cats and ADR (ain't doing right),
kitten dry and cans and a couple other items for finicky felines you can see on our amazon wish list.

If you like, you can pick even just one item from Amazon - or even set up a recurring delivery! Your help will mean so much me and to our hungry babies! We would be grateful for a donation towards these food items or an amazon gift!

Have you ever seen a bobcat up close? We found this beautiful young male yesterday, he was hit by a car. He is probably about the size of our servals or jungle cats just stockier. We probably find two or three a year. He looks very healthy and fit - he just was in the wrong place at the wrong time.

In South Carolina it is illegal to own a bobcat because they are a native species. The only exception is if you are a USDA licensed facility or if you have a rehabilitation permit.

Oscar often liked to be by himself, but sometimes he would go and lie next to one of the residents. Strangely, the resident he chose would often pass away within a few hours.

At first, the workers didn't think it was important, but after it happened 20 times, they started to think Oscar knew when someone was going to die. So, they began to call the resident's family if they saw Oscar with them.

Some people think Oscar could sense certain smells from dying cells, and that's why he went to comfort residents who were alone.

There was even a time when the staff thought one resident was going to die, but Oscar stayed with a different, healthier-looking person, who then died first.

Oscar lived until 2022 and was right about more than 100 deaths during his life.

Quail breakfast for some of our Hybrids!

in Columbia is a locally owned business that provides a variety of quail preparations. I got this compact, small, amazing chopper/grinder from Amazon that can prepare the quail and other meat that they eat. I mix in a vitamin/mineral supplement from
When they are little I use breast with no bones and as they get bigger I can include finely ground bone that has more nutritional benefits. Almost ALL of our felines would love to eat this diet, and it would be better for them because ALL cats are obligate carnivores. Alas, the cost and prep time would do me in!

If you would like to help feed our exotic crew you can donate below! I'll be writing up a monthly average feed bill so you can see what we spend on our eating budget for cats.

Remember, please come for a TOUR! You will see SO many small exotics and the hybrids that come from them all in ONE place! Not only will you get to see them, you will learn SO much more than you ever imagined as my knowledge on the life, health and behaviour of these cats is beyond extensive. There is a $25 fee/person and all proceeds will go towards helping the lives of our cats. Please call for more info and book ahead!
