Tomorrow, this sweet girl is heading to Texas A&M for her evaluation in preparation for PDA (Patent Ductus Arteriosus) heart surgery. 🫀🐶
If her exam goes well and she is cleared for surgery, she’ll be one step closer to getting the heart care she needs. We’re keeping our fingers, paws, and hearts crossed for good news! 🤞🐾💕

🐾 Education Tuesday: Know the Signs! 🐾

⚠️EXPLICIT IMAGES AHEAD⚠️

Meet Koda. ❤️

Today we're talking about peria**l hepatoid gland epithelioma, a tumor that commonly develops around the a**s and is seen most often in intact male dogs.

🔎 Why does it happen?
These tumors are influenced by testosterone, which is why intact males are at higher risk. They can appear as small lumps around the a**s and may continue to grow, become irritated, ulcerated, infected, or uncomfortable.

⚠️ Why is early detection important?
What may look like a simple lump can become a much bigger problem if left untreated. Depending on the size and location, surgical removal can be challenging and may carry risks because of the surrounding tissues.

✂️ One important way to reduce the risk:
Neutering male dogs significantly decreases the likelihood of developing these testosterone-dependent tumors and may also be recommended as part of treatment when one is already present.

❤️ The takeaway:
If you notice a new lump, swelling, bleeding, irritation, or changes around your dog's a**l area, don't ignore it. Have your veterinarian examine it.

🌟 Hero of the Week: Charming Pet Rescue's Shark Week Litter! 🦈🐶
This week's heroes are Charming Pet Rescue's adorable Shark Week Litter! 💙
These sweet puppies recently visited our clinic and, like many young puppies, tested positive for roundworms.

Roundworms are one of the most common intestinal parasites found in puppies. They can be passed from mom to her puppies before birth or through nursing, and puppies can also become infected by accidentally ingesting parasite eggs from contaminated soil or infected prey.

Signs of roundworms may include: 🐾 A pot-bellied appearance 🐾 Poor growth 🐾 Diarrhea 🐾 Vomiting 🐾 Visible worms in the stool

The good news? Roundworms are both preventable
and treatable!
Here's how you can help protect your pets: ✔️ Follow your veterinarian's recommended deworming schedule. ✔️ Keep your pet on year-round parasite prevention. ✔️ Pick up pet waste promptly to reduce environmental contamination. ✔️ Wash your hands after handling pets or cleaning up after them.

⚠️ Did you know? Roundworms are zoonotic, meaning they can be passed from animals to people. Humans can accidentally ingest microscopic eggs from contaminated soil or surfaces. Although uncommon, the larvae can migrate through the body and, in rare cases, affect organs or even the eyes. That's why routine f***l exams, deworming, good hygiene, and parasite prevention are so important for both pets and their families.

These little land sharks are currently being fostered by one of our amazing veterinary technicians, where they're receiving plenty of love, socialization, and the medical care they need to grow into happy, healthy puppies. ❤️

They'll be available for adoption soon through Charming Pet Rescue, so keep an eye out you won't want to miss the chance to bring one of these tiny heroes home!

Meet Raphael. 💙
This tiny superhero was brought to us after being abandoned by his mother. While he's safe now, his story is a reminder of just how much care newborn kittens require when they don't have mom.
🐾 The best place for newborn puppies and kittens is with their mother whenever possible. Mother's milk provides essential nutrition, antibodies, warmth, and comfort that simply can't be replaced.
When that isn't possible, bottle babies require around-the-clock care from dedicated fosters.
Did you know bottle baby fosters must: 🍼 Feed newborns every 2-3 hours day and night. 🌡️ Help keep them warm because they can't regulate their own body temperature. 💛 Stimulate them after every feeding to help them urinate and defecate. ⏰ Commit to weeks of sleepless nights to give these tiny lives a fighting chance.
While bottle feeding saves lives, prevention is always the greatest act of love.
✨ Spaying and neutering is the number one way to prevent unwanted litters and reduce the number of orphaned puppies and kittens needing bottle feeders.

💡 Hero Tip Tuesday: Meet Pearl! 🐾💙
One of our brave little patients! ❤️
Pearl came to see us because her family was concerned about her skin. She had hair loss, redness, and irritated skin that looked like mange. After examining her skin under the microscope, we discovered the cause Demodex mites, also known as demodectic mange.
🔬 What is Demodex?
Demodex mites are tiny mites that naturally live in the hair follicles of dogs. In healthy dogs, they're usually harmless. However, puppies and dogs with weakened immune systems can experience an overgrowth of these mites, leading to skin irritation and infection.
⚠️ Signs of Demodectic Mange: 🐾 Hair loss 🐾 Red or inflamed skin 🐾 Scabs or crusting 🐾 Itching (can vary) 🐾 Secondary skin infections
💚 The good news?
Demodectic mange is treatable! With the proper medication and veterinary care, most dogs recover beautifully.

🐾 Tick Awareness & Prevention! 🐾

As the warmer months approach, it’s crucial to stay informed about ticks and the potential risks they pose to our furry friends. Did you know that just one tick can lay thousands of eggs? I recently conducted an experiment with my five-year-old son to demonstrate this. We placed a single tick in a bag, and after three months, it multiplied into millions of tiny ticks! 🐜📹 Check out the videos and pictures to see just how quickly these pests can proliferate!
