PREPARING FOR TROPICAL STORM / HURRICANE IMELDA
As the one-year anniversary of Hurricane Helene is among us, there is another storm developing in the Atlantic. There is much uncertainty about the path of the storm, however, it is forecasted to make a significant impact along the southeast coast of the US bringing possible wind damage, power outages, and flooding.
We are concerned for the health and safety of everyone and their pets and would like to remind everyone, especially during these uncertain times:
Make sure your pet's microchip record is up-to-date.
Add an out-of-state Alternate Contact to your pet’s microchip record in the event you and your pet are displaced from one another and you cannot be reached because phone lines are down or jammed.
Follow all local Emergency Management directives.
Refer to the AKC Reunite Pet Emergency Planning Guide with more helpful guidance on how to keep your pet safe.
AKC Reunite is the nation’s largest non-profit pet microchip and recovery service organization that has given back over $16 million to support working K9s and pet disaster relief efforts. We will continue to monitor the situation on the ground in Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, and Virginia as our Disaster Fund can provide grants to 501c3 animal shelters and non-profit organizations that are caring for pets evacuated or displaced because of the storm.
Many are still displaced and recovering after the devastating destruction that Hurricane Helene brought. Our hearts are with everyone that was impacted as we prepare for another storm.
