That time of year when many are looking for birds and eggs. That means scammers will be active online. I got permission to share this. A LOT of good information here.

Here are some things I have noticed from posts made by victims of scammers.
Shipping live birds is far more costly than what I see these scammers offer. Shipping a mature bird via USPS express, normally runs about 100.00 per box. These boxes can hold 1 full grown bird or a couple of juveniles.
When shipping is offered at a lower price for mature birds (20.00-50.00) - red flag 🚩
Average estimated shipping costs:
Large Express box … 100.00
Chick Express box .. 50.00 - 80.00
Priority Eggs .. 14.00 - 18.00
The USPS is the only shipping company within the US that will ship live poultry.
Granted there are private transport companies that are beginning to offer this, but they are far & few inbetween.
If someone is offering live shipping through a service other than USPS & a reputable private transport - red flag 🚩
The USPS HARDLY offers overnight shipping for live birds. They have pushed back their estimated ship times on express shipping to average about 2-3 days.
If someone is offering you low shipping costs and overnight delivery - red flag 🚩
Shipping live poultry within the US requires a NPIP certification. Asking for NPIP number is not impolite or overbearing. You can verify a breeders certification at this site based on state.

If they cannot provide a valid NPIP number or do not show up on their states list of active participants - red flag 🚩
If shipping out of country, the breeder will need to acquire additional certifications & permits. If they cannot provide this - red flag 🚩
PayPal friends & family does not automatically mean scammer. Most reputable breeders who do ask for friends & family are generally fine with goods & services so long as buyer covers fees.
Being adamantly against goods & services even with buyer covering fees - red flag 🚩
Profiles & pages made after 2020 - automatic red flag 🚩
Pay close attention to the pictures on their page, scroll as far back as you can. Look at the details.
•Are the coops & runs similar?
•Or do they look like different structures & building techniques?
•Is the land scape in the background the same?
•Do they have every breed imaginable?
•Are there recommendations or mentions on their page?
•Are there angry reactions to their posts?
These are all things to keep in mind when contemplating purchasing from someone.
