Welcome to the Second Chance Page for Cumberland County's animals in need. This volunteer-run page is designed to positively promote the community's animals that most urgently need help. Profanity, slander and/or threats will NOT be tolerated. While we understand that the nature of this page makes it emotional, we believe that working together, not against each other, in a positive manner makes th

Please contact the Foster Coordinator at [email protected] for information about fostering a SJRAS animal. Please note, that not all animals are available to be fostered. Emails are checked frequently and will be responded to as quickly as possible. Responses may not be immediate but all emails will be seen and noted. We strive to respond as quickly as possible, typically within 24 hours. We truly appreciate all support- through sharing, transporting, volunteering, fostering, donating, and of course life-saving pulls from Rescue/Shelter Partners.

💔 We can’t figure out why Hazel is still waiting.

She’s friendly, affectionate, great with kids, gets along well with other dogs, and loves being part of whatever her people are doing. Hazel checks so many boxes that we expected her to be adopted by now.

Yet she’s still waiting for someone to notice her.

Hazel isn’t asking for much—just a family to love, a couch to relax on, adventures to share, and people to call her own. Whether it’s a busy day out or a quiet evening at home, she’s happiest simply being included.

The shelter is no place for a dog with so much love to give. We’re hoping her family sees this post and realizes she’s exactly who they’ve been looking for. ❤️

Todd is the kind of dog who deserves to be seen outside of his kennel

At 3.5 years old, Todd has been quietly overlooked while day after day of shelter stress continues to weigh on him. In his kennel, he can show some barrier reactivity, but the moment you take him out you can clearly see he just wants love.

He takes treats gently, leans his whole body into pets, and enjoys being brushed. He recently met a family with children and was very friendly, happily soaking up affection from everyone around him.

Dogs like Todd are so often passed by because of how they appear in the kennel, when really they just need someone willing to look a little deeper. Please ask to meet him outside of his kennel. We truly believe you’ll see the good dog we all see. 🥹

We are urgently in need of kitten pate and are also running very low on dry kitten food and dry adult cat food.

With kitten season in full swing, we are seeing a steady influx of cats and kittens coming through our doors. Every can, every bag, and every donation directly helps us keep up with the growing demand and ensure each one gets the care they need.

Riyah is pure fun wrapped up in one happy, energetic pup. ✨

This lovable 5-year-old doesn’t just attend playgroup — she makes it a party. She’s been spending time with Todd, Draco, and Shandi, where she’s shown off her playful, social personality and love for staying active. Riyah enjoys running, engaging with other dogs, and being part of the action from start to finish.

When her excitement builds, she can get a little rowdy during play, but she responds well to redirection and settles quickly with guidance. At the end of the day, Riyah is just a goofy girl who wants to have fun and enjoy life. 💕

Outside of playgroup, she’s affectionate, people-friendly, and impossible not to smile around — especially with her adorable tongue constantly sticking out. 😄

She does well with people, including kids, and would thrive with an active family who can continue helping her channel all that happy energy in positive ways.

Riyah is looking for someone who will embrace her silly side, keep her active, and love her for exactly who she is — joyful chaos and all. 💛
