Cookie's Legacy

Cookie's Legacy An ongoing community program of the Animal Refuge Center, Inc. http://animalrefugecenter.org We said she was one tough Cookie, and the name stuck.

Cookies story started when two volunteers came to the shelter to ask for advice about a small black cat that was injured in Radcliff. After speaking to some people who knew about this kitty, we found out that this little girl had been dragging herself around for a year or more. It seems that she was hit by a car as a kitten: her hind legs were destroyed, and she had been unable to walk since. The

worst part of the story is that the people who feed these feral cats did nothing to help her. Worse, they saw nothing wrong with the sight of this little cutie dragging herself through the neighborhood. Cookie was caught on a Sunday and our veterinarian came on Monday and it was decided that the kindest thing to do for Cookie was to humanely euthanize her. Cookie was frightened at first, but she enjoyed her canned food and probably for the first time in her life she enjoyed sleeping on a soft, warm and–most of all–clean bed. She looked on us with an expression on her sweet little face that would melt your heart. We knew how tough it was for a little girl like this one to survive out on the streets. It was very important to all that met Cookie that her death would not be in vain. So to ensure that Cookie will help other feral kitties out there, we have established “Cookie’s Legacy”. These donations will go to help spay/neuter and care for other feral cats in Hardin County. We can spay a cat for $45 and neuter for $30. Please give generously so we can help as many community cats as possible. For now we are working on trapping Cookie’s family before the population explodes. We would like to make this a staple program through ARC. I would like to think that from here on out, every time a trap door snaps shut on a feral cat, another homeless cat comes home....and Cookie will smile down on us from above. If you want to make a lasting donation to Cookie’s Legacy, please make a pledge online via Paypal or credit card and know: Your contribution has just saved a life.

It’s getting real y’all!

We are very close to opening the doors of our new low cost spay/neuter clinic. Shout out to Signarama for our awesome signage (and their grant that made it possible)!

The Snip Spot does not take the place of our partnership with Hardin County Animal Shelter - Elizabethtown, Kentucky for low cost spay/neuter, it just increases our capacity so that we can offer more spaces and shorter wait times. Win-win!

Those needing low cost spay/neuter services will still apply at https://fohcas.org/spay-and-neuter-assistance/. We cannot take walk ins and do not offer other vet services.

We have so many to thank who have gotten us here - and we still have a bit to go - but we had to celebrate this milestone ❤️

We have real-life heroes right here in our community! Our team of volunteers, led by Brenda, trapped community cats from six different areas in the most unforgiving frigid weather to fill 12 TNR slots tomorrow morning!

This effort was successful through early planning, coordination and patience! Thank you Brenda and team for your continued efforts to improve the lives of community cats and kittens! We are sure these 12 lucky kitties are happy in their traps overnight as the temperatures plunge to single digits outside!

TNR saves lives! Our volunteers are true heroes!

I made a huge dent in this colony! 9 cats were trapped and taken to Hope Clinic in Versailles on May 3rd. Unfortunately, They are not friendly enough to take in, so they will be going back. They do have a good caretaker.

Tiny sick baby is doing better. I had to syringe feed for a few days while she got her sense of smell back. Antibiotics, probiotics, eye meds, vitamins are working. She is a sweet little thing!

It’s getting cold out there, folks! ❄️

If you are feeding outdoor cats, hopefully you already have shelters in place. If not, try to gather some supplies as quickly as you can.

✅ Your main goal is to provide a place for them to stay dry.

✅ Always use straw to help insulate your shelters as it repels moisture.

If you find an animal that is in trouble, follow these simple steps to try to help them warm up.
