Worthy Dog Rescue was honored to be part of the 1st Annual Shouse Village Halloween Dog Costume Parade in Vienna, VA, yesterday. 🎃🐾

The event was organized by Linda, one of our former foster moms, who moved here from NYC. She fondly remembers the city's annual dog Halloween parade and wanted to bring that same kind of fun to her own community.

Linda put together a heartwarming event complete with a panel of judges, a costume contest, and toy prizes for the winners. Twenty-five pups showed up with the humans who love them, along with plenty of adorable kids, all ready to celebrate.

It was a gorgeous day; everyone was in great spirits, and the dogs were so well-behaved as they paraded through the neighborhood in their costumes.

Thank you to Linda for bringing this idea to life and inviting Worthy Dog Rescue to be part of it. We love seeing communities come together around their love of dogs.

Maggie Update! ❤️ This rockstar deserves her moment in the spotlight!

Huge thanks to Sabrina Dirty Paw Photography for capturing Maggie’s sweet personality and softer side with these beautiful photos! 📸

Maggie is the perfect mix of adventure buddy and professional snuggle bug. She loves hiking, fetching sticks in the bay, tagging along to her foster mom’s office (where she’s an REI staff favorite!), and curling up on the couch to hang out.

Maggie is social, playful, affectionate, and great with other dogs, especially if they like to play. Sadly, black bully girls are often overlooked, and this amazing girl is still waiting for her forever family.

Reintroducing Sadie! ❤️🐾

Just two months ago, Sadie’s world was a muddy outdoor pen where she lived in isolation without consistent food or fresh water. Her only real escape was playdates with the neighbors’ dog, whom she absolutely adored. Thankfully, those neighbors advocated for her until she made it into rescue.

Today, Sadie is thriving in her foster home and recently had some fall glamour shots taken to capture her beauty and sweetness! 📸 Her foster mom says she’s the happiest, most well-adjusted dog they’ve ever fostered.

This full-figured lovebug wants nothing more than to be near her people. She’s affectionate, greets everyone happily, is house-trained, sleeps through the night, and is comfortable staying home alone. She gets along well with other dogs and loves walks, exploring the backyard, and playing with toys.

Sadie still needs to lose about 12–15 pounds after years of limited exercise and an inconsistent diet. New things and loud noises can make her a little nervous, but she’s building confidence every day. An active family ready to give her the exercise, companionship, and love she deserves would be a wonderful match.

After spending so long without the life she deserved, Sadie is finally discovering how good life can be.

Meet Miss Lily Fox (formerly Lilith)! 🐾

A video from Charlotte Mecklenburg Animal Care & Control was circulating online featuring a little senior dog found as a stray. Because of her skin condition, she was being overlooked by potential adopters. The shelter also isn’t the ideal environment for a dog who needs medical care and time to recover.

The video struck a chord with our team, and one of our amazing foster moms, Dina, stepped up to help. Yesterday, we welcomed this sweet little girl into Worthy Dog Rescue! Dina renamed her Miss Lily Fox, which sounds like a very important Pomeranian 😅. She’s been sleeping a lot, likely catching up on much-needed rest after the stress and exhaustion of shelter life.

Soon, Miss Lily Fox will begin to understand that her world has changed. She’s safe, she’s loved, and she finally has a chance for a better life.💖

We couldn’t help dogs like Miss Lily Fox without dedicated foster families willing to open their homes to dogs in need.

MEET GUNNER! 🐾

If you are looking for a confident, goofy, and incredibly easygoing dog to add to your family, Gunner is your boy! This gorgeous 2-year-old Beagle/GSP mix with striking amber eyes is officially ready for his forever home.

His foster mom raves that he is "one of the best all-around dogs I've ever fostered." He came to us as an owner surrender through no fault of his own when his youthful energy was too much for his elderly owners in their 80s.

October is Pit Bull Awareness Month, and we’re excited to feature one of our budding animal advocates, Mattias!

Mattias is a 17-year-old senior at George Marshall High School who created this informative video about this often misunderstood and stereotyped breed as part of his Creativity, Activity, Service (CAS) project for the International Baccalaureate program.

We love his message about challenging stereotypes and speaking up when we hear misinformation to help open hearts and minds about these amazing dogs.

Matt and his family have fostered multiple pitties for Worthy Dog Rescue over the past 10 years and are also two-time pittie adopters! Their first was Kaya (the kitty whisperer), and their current pup, Ruby, is also featured in his video.

When he’s not advocating for animals, Matt keeps busy with debate, speech, mock trial, and plays varsity soccer.
