The rhythmical, three dimensional movement of the horse at a walk stimulates movement to the rider that is similar to human walking. The total development of the rider, including their social, emotional, cognitive and motor skills, are enhanced through interactions with the horses, the volunteers and the outdoors.

🌟🐴 In the spirit of the season, our riders decorated their own Christmas ornaments. To make these ornaments truly their own, they embarked on a journey around the arena. The mission? Collect the perfect stickers that would craft a keepsake to capture their memories at The RTC.

🐴🎄 This week, we’re shining the holiday spotlight on the incredible Paloma, or as we all lovingly call her, “Pal.” With her kind heart and steady presence, Pal is a favorite of riders and staff alike!

🎁 Born on April 1, 2002, Pal’s life took a beautiful turn in 2008 when she was generously donated to The RTC by a kindhearted local Victoria family. Since then, she’s been on a mission to make lives brighter through her work in our equine therapeutic riding program. Standing at a petite 13.8 hands tall, Pal’s size and gentle demeanor make her the perfect partner for our younger and less experienced riders.

As a gaited Paso Fino, her smooth and rhythmic stride ensures a comfortable ride, sparing her riders from jarring motions. For many of our participants, especially those with muscle spasticity or limited joint flexibility, Pal’s unique gait and narrow build are nothing short of a Christmas miracle. Her empathy and patience make her a lifeline for those who need it most, both physically and emotionally.

🎅 Pal’s compassion and dedication have made her one of the most cherished therapy horses in our RTC family. She’s more than a horse—she’s a source of strength, healing, and holiday magic.

🐴🎄 This week, we’re celebrating Tank, one of our most dependable and kind-hearted therapy horses! With his big heart and gentle spirit, Tank has been spreading holiday cheer to our riders all year long. He is definitely a staff favorite around the barn!

🎁 Tank, a Belgian Draft x Quarter Horse, was born in 2001 and has had quite the career before joining us. He first served as a police horse in the northwest, protecting and serving his community. After his time on duty, he brought joy and comfort to a family with a child with disabilities. In December 2017, Tank became part of The RTC as a lease horse, and by July 2019, we officially welcomed him into our herd.

🎄 Tank’s versatility is a gift to our program—he works beautifully with both lead line and independent riders. He’s especially beloved for his strength and reliability, capable of carrying riders slightly above 200 lbs with ease. But what truly makes Tank magical is his patience. In the rare instance of an unplanned dismount, Tank freezes in place, ensuring his rider is safe before taking another step. That level of care and awareness is a hallmark of why he’s one of our cherished therapy horses.
