Are we crazy? Breeders always get the question, "why are puppies so expensive?" While we shouldn't need to justify the costs, time, energy and passion that goes in to it, a snapshot of just one part of the process should be enough.

Our biotch came in to season on July 21st. Since then, we did 6 progesterone tests to get accurate idea of ovulation, driving a total of 864 miles to get them done (all early morning and having to rush to ensure that we could notify stud dog owner on the East coast - a two hour time difference not in our favor - and give them enough time to collect and get to FedEx office) Cost of tests, shipping boxes, service fee, FedEx priority over night shipping (twice) was well over $1500 and a 144 mile round trip to idaho falls airport to pick up because FedEx does not do Saturday delivery to our house. We bred (AI) on Friday 8/7 and Sunday 8/9 with help from a friend via telephone to ensure we were doing everything properly. That's a lot of time and work in the last 2 1/2 weeks. Woe is me!

This isnt a sob story, just a glimpse into part of a years long process to actually have a litter from a healthy and fully tested girl.

Now we wait with fingers crossed for the next 28 days to see if she is pregnant. If she is, a all black litter will be here in early October. Stay tuned.

Yep, that's a new girl. Tauli, Brae’s Party Animal at Skyfire, is visiting us this summer for a fall litter. Bred by Angela Rogalla and owned by Stephanie Harris, she is a lovely girl out of Solo (GCH CH Somersun’s Red Cup Party Girl) and Mo (GCH CH Skyfire’s Monster CH).
