Made a little video to show what one of our main chores is in the spring - moving a bunch of sheep on ten acres. I typically just let them out while I set up a new pasture as the perimeter is fenced and also, now the sheep know their home, they don't wander too much.
Then it's time to find them and bring them back. The video is pretty long because I thought it would be fun to show what happens when my very good mommy ewe would prefer to protect her lamb when Danger gets too close.
He really likes pressure on animals so he's learning that if he gives they'll move, but he still doesn't like it. You'll see me start verbally handling him to help him do the job - ideally he'd just do the job, but we're not there yet. I used to think dogs should just KNOW this stuff so I'm grateful to have my own stock and for Danger to show me how you really do need to help show them. Some dogs inherently get some things, some don't. Danger's not had enough pressure work so if it doesn't move easily, he gets frustrated and needs help.
But at the same time, I'm proud of him taking his commands. When I first started, I thought that's what stock work was, but now I understand that you shouldn't have to say too much. BUT it is super excellent to have a dog that does precisely what you ask and I won't take it for granted.
