My beautiful and talented friend, Donna Vickers made this lovely bracelet with Korbi, Soni and Jagger’s tail pieces as a keepsake.

This was a labor of love that I begged she make for me… and I appreciate and cherish it.

Bittersweet memories of just some of the many horses I’ve had the pleasure to love, enjoy and share with many children’s their first riding experiences♥️💔

Soni & Korbi were the most gentle and patient lesson horses and the matriarchs and mane contributors to the success of Shady Oaks Ranch!
(Yes, I’ve held onto their tail pieces until I decided exactly what I wanted as a keepsake)

I am a lesson horse.
I am a horse that isn’t as recognized as the top hunter jumpers, the best western pleasure horse, or the 1D barrel horse, I am a lesson horse. I am the backbone of the foundation to do all of those things. I am a lesson horse.

I am not loved by one person. I am loved by several people. I don’t have my person, I have my people. I am a lesson horse.

I will teach your child and yourself more than just to ride. I will bring your child out of their shell. I will teach your child about life. I will be yours and their shoulder to cry on. I am a lesson horse.

I will bring my family the joy of teaching kids. I will bring my families business growth. I am so loved by my family, even if they don’t express it everyday. My family allows others to show me love and enjoy me. I am a lesson horse.

At the end of your childs’ journey on a lesson horse, they will out grow me. They will find one that jumps higher, a horse that is show quality, a horse much faster than me. But, I will never outgrow being a lesson horse. I will be the one that loved your child and helped your child grow into the rider and person they are. I am a lesson horse.

At the end of my time as a lesson horse; I will be covered in grey hair. Each grey hair came from each hour I spent as a lesson horse. I will be in a field of green grass, I will be taken care of as I was when I was a lesson horse. I will watch your child from across the pasture love her new horse. But, I will love your child more than any horse can. I will be the backbone of the business, the family, and your child. Don’t forget about me, I am a lesson horse.

Thank you to all our family and friends that called & texted just to check in on us!😘. We were very blessed to have been out of the path of all the tornadoes touching down in our beautiful hometown and surrounding counties🙏🏼. All the horses were tucked away safely and happy to see us in the morning!

I can honestly say, I’ve never been so afraid in all the hurricanes I’ve been through as the beginning of Milton!!! Thank goodness Alaina Terry and the pups were here to keep me company and we were prepared to hunker down in my closet if need be. Hearing my phone go off every 10-15 minutes was honestly the most frightening sound!

Our guys were on duty working through the storm and we were blessed to not lose power or internet which I’m not sure was good or bad as we watched all the devastation around us unfolding.

Thank you lord for keeping the tornadoes away from our family & friends as they were literally just a street over in some cases!!🙏🏼. Some friends had devastating flooding and some only had debris in yards, lost power & internet. Again we are blessed with our lives and homes❤️

The little concrete barn roof had damage and our roundpen will be being replaced😢 As you can imagine, lots of debris with over 40 oaks at Shady Oaks Ranch. Our awesome boarders helped make a pile - 1 of many we had to pick up, load and haul away. Our big stag has to be rehung, but again so blessed!🙏🏼

Praying for all who lost their loved ones, homes and businesses. Hurricanes are SO much work before and after. The emotional, physical and mental anxiety is utterly exhausting preparing, waiting & watching as the storm unfolds! Lots of prayers and I love seeing the community pitching in to help those in need. It’s times like these that make me so happy knowing what an incredible town we reside in.

Praying for all that power is restored soon and another beautiful sunny day will bless us tomorrow❤️. Prayers for all that endured Milton & Helene🙏🏼

We had to say our goodbyes to Slider our sweet “pigmy” barn goat. Slider gave hours of enjoyment to the camp kids many years ago. “Captain Slider Sparrow” as he would allow the girls to braid beads into his beard and proudly wear them all week 🏴‍☠️ He loved Popcorn and Hunny and He made friends with everyone that shared cereal with him. RIP old man. You sure lived a great long life with us at Shady Oaks Ranch❤️
