Cachryx is a genus not many really talk about which is why I want to tell you what I have learned through some research so please read & let me know what you think!

Cachryx is a genus containing 2 different species (it’s hard af to tell them apart for me!) The Yucatán spiny tailed Iguana & the Campeche Spiny Tailed Iguana. They were once thought to be part of “Ctenosaura” (The true Spiny Tailed Iguanas) but that changed in 2017 after a deeper study.

The Yucatán Spiny Tailed Iguana (Cachryx defensor) is found in the northern part of El Yucatán Mexico & parts of Guatemala. This species is listed as a Vulnerable species due to habitat destruction & the pet trade which is why they are listed as CITES Appendix II .

The Campeche Spiny Tailed Iguana (Cachryx alfredschmidti) is found in One city in Mexico (Campeche, Mexico) & a small part of Quintana Roo. This species tends to be larger than the Yucatán species & honestly that’s as much as I know About them 😭 HELP!

Uroplatus lineatus - Lined Leaf-tailed gecko - This female was fired up all kinds of yellow the other night! Their color and pattern can go through insanely dramatic change due to the light, heat, or other conditions. More often than not, this animal shows perfect striping. Tonight, just yellow… I’ll take it

A true weirdo among weirdos, lineatus is the only bamboo specialist in the Uroplatus family. These guys operate quite differently than the rest of their family, and come with their own set up challenges and quirks. I’ve tried to keep mine hotter and more humid than most of my other animals, which has resulted in some breeding success, although far less productive than other species.
