Safe Harbor Animal Rescue is Located in Vermilion, Ohio
🐾Adoption Process🐾
1. Fill out our application ( please fill out entirely, as missed questions can prevent it from submitting properly) if a question does not apply you can put n/a
2. Read the application entirely while answering questions. We have chosen these questions to help us choose the BEST Family for each of our rescue dogs. And yes we do require you give your age. This helps us place a dog properly.
3. Please call your vet @ the time of placing your App or by 10 am the next business day to give Safe Harbor Permission to view your records.
⚠️⚠️Not completing this step will absolutely delay the processing of your application.⚠️⚠️
4. Adoption fees range from $250-$700
$700 is our top tier adopt fee. This is our
“Support” level adoption tier. We rescue a lot of medical needs dogs/puppies. Our vet bills are always high and the “support” adoption tier helps us pay those large bills.
5. Adoption fees include:
A)Spay/neuter, vaccines appropriate for age of dog.
B)HW testing, and treatment( we use simparica trio and revolution)
C)Parasite medication given upon intake and
Additionally as deemed by our vet partners.
D)Microchipped
Anything additional will be reflected on the vet paperwork you receive at time of adoption.
6. When we call your vet to complete the vet reference requirement.
We will ask ( also a question in the application)
Are all animals in the home spayed & neutered? (We do not adopt to homes with intact animals)
Are all vaccines currently up to date and does the history show consistency.
Are they doing yearly Heartworm testing and treating monthly! We will ask what medication you are using, and ask the history on purchasing that monthly treatment.
🐾🐾Grooming - We consider grooming to be part of proper care of an animal. In our decision to adopt, we may ask to speak with your current groomer. We will look at your current dog’s coat and make sure they are properly cared for. Additionally, when adopting a dog from SHAR that requires routine coat care and grooming, we will require that is managed properly. We reserve the right to follow up and confirm a clean well maintained coat. Please research costs involved, and have a plan when applying for a breed of dog that will require at least every 8 week grooming appts. Thank you!!!❤️🐾
If you do not have a pet, or have never had a pet… we will base our final decision on a case by case discussion.
*We do not adopt out of state without a vet history that we can confirm. ***
Any discrepancy or lack of consistent veterinary care will disqualify you from adopting from SHAR.
We take the care of our animals very seriously.
Prior to entering into the care of SHAR these animals have not always lived the BEST lives.
Our top priority is giving them the Best Life
And care for the rest of their lives.
We know you have questions, and we know you are excited. We promise you will have time to learn all about the animal you are interested in adopting.

We do not do meet & greets without approved applications. We are a Foster based rescue.
Our dogs are not in one place to come and meet our adoptable dogs.
We are a privately ran rescue. SHAR is based in Vermilion, Ohio. Each of our dogs are in private foster homes, therefore everything is done by appointment.
Our application is always the 1st Step in our process! ( no exception)
Once we receive your application, we will contact you via phone call, email, or sometimes text. We will process the app and ask questions we need to know to choose the best family. At this time we will answer all of your questions. We do nothing on a first come first serve capacity.
🐾🐾Once our dogs are posted as adoptable, this means they are ready to go to their forever homes. We do not hold dogs. Please only apply if you are ready to take on the responsibility of the dog once the process is completed.
🐾🐾If you have vacations planned please do not put in an application then expect us to hold the dog till you get back. Wait till you are home and can give your new family member time to adjust to your home, family, and routine!
