Tick Prevention For Your Pet

Tick exposure can be dangerous to your pet so the first step is prevention!

✅ Get a collar and a topical is best, particularly for your dog.

✅ Cats are a little more sensitive to some of the tick medications, so you want to make sure you're using a proper medication for your cat.

✅ But you want to double up with your dog, especially if you're hiking in hills, where you have a collar that will repel them and a topical that will actually prevent them from embedding in their skin.

✅ Check your animal, as well as yourself, for possible ticks after every hike, every camping trip, every walk

✅ Ticks can be anywhere, commonly in dogs and cats, they're around their ears, in their growing area, or under their armpits, but they can be anywhere

✅ If a tick has been on your animal for a long time, they could have given them Lyme disease or another tick disease.

✅ A common sign of lime disease in dogs and cats and some other animals, as well, is joint problems, and they so they might start limping.

✅ You may take them to the vet and they don't see anything wrong. There's no muscle damage, there's no joint damage.

✅ Talk to your vet if your animal has been exposed to ticks, super important to let them know that they were bit by a tick, you removed a tick, how long it was.

In the human world, Lyme disease mimics lots of other diseases, MS, lupus, all kinds of different things.

So enjoy your time out there, try to prevent those ticks from getting you so that your life can continue to go on well.

On today’s Trainer quick tip I want to show you some ways to teach your dog to walk nicely on leash.

✅ You may use Freedom No Pull Harness, or head halters, whatever harnesses you use, I want you to make sure it's not causing pain and that it's fit correctly

❌ No Pinch Collars

❌ Choke Chains

❌ Shock Collars

✅ Have a clicker with you

✅ Make sure you have a very high value treat.

✅ If your dog doesn't like the cream cheese, you can try peanut butter, beef or chicken, or some other really high value treat to keep their attention.

✅ Begin training where there are no distractions. I would start this in my backyard of my house

✅ Start by keeping the clicker and leash on one side of your body and the treats in the opposite hand.

✅ Remember we are not looking for perfection

✅ Take a step, click & treat (reinforcement for being next to handler)

✅ Feed directly to your dogs mouth to prevent jumping ( you can use a wooden stick with cream cheese on the end for smaller breeds)

✅ Repeat this multiple times so they can begin to learn to stay in a general area.

So I hope this trainer quick tip helped you a little bit with loosely walking.
