Meet Rambo, a 5 month old Belgian Malinois, who was struck by a car and had a severe fracture through the tibial growth plates below the knee joint. This fracture can be devastating to athletic ability and it’s crucial it’s repaired in young dogs like Rambo.
Dr. Holsworth used a combination of intra-operative fluoroscopy and a small open approach to reset the bone fragments to their correct location and drive a series of stabilizing pins through the fractured pieces to re-create Rambo’s normal anatomy and provide stability for healing.
Difficult surgery with an all-or-nothing approach… Thankfully Rambo is healing very well and his follow-up x-rays show stable fracture and good early bone healing.
We continue the healing journey together but have high hope for Rambo’s return to run and play!🐶🐾

Meet Gray🐱- an 11 month old Scottish Fold who recently underwent a Peritoneopericardial Diaphramic Hernia (PPDH) Repair performed by Dr.Ludwig.

Gray was diagnosed with PPDH- a congenital condition where abdominal organs like the stomach, intestines, liver and spleen migrate into the sac around the heart (pericardial sac) through a defect in the diaphragm. This can affect breathing, digestion, and overall comfort.

➡️ In the first (pre-op) x-rays you can see Gray’s abdominal organs herniated into the chest cavity.

➡️ In the second (post-op) x-rays all organs are now properly contained within the abdominal cavity.

The surgery went well and Gray is on the road to recovery while wearing his new post-op pajamas! 💙😸

This past Saturday, we had an amazing time celebrating Moorpark Veterinary Hospital’s 35th Anniversary open house event. It was a pleasure to have a booth at the celebration, connect with the community, answer questions, and share more about the specialized care we offer at VetSurg.
We had fun watching Dr.Smith get dunked by his Team and visiting all the booths with their adorable animals! 🦜🦉🐐
Thank you to for the invitation, and congratulations on 35 successful years of business!🎉🌟

Flat Stanley traveled all the way to VetSurg via mail from the East coast to the Best coast to spend a day behind the scenes at VetSurg! He scrubbed into surgery with our Team in the OR and even hung out with our orthopedic bone models. We enjoyed having him join the VetSurg Team for the day!… his caretaker, Max, is 7 and an aspiring vet… hopefully Stanley says good things to Max on his return!✈️💙

Comet came into VetSurg for a tibial fracture repair. His fracture was able to be repaired using the fluoroscopy in a minimally invasive manner.
This technique minimizes trauma to the healing fracture tissues while allowing us to align and stabilize the bone as it heals. We’re all wishing Comet well in his recovery! 🩻💙
