Indian Hammer Veterinary Services provides both small and large animal services. Some of these services include:

Small Animal Services (not all inclusive): Traditional spay, Laparoscopic spay and neutering, reproductive services, wellness exams, vaccinations, laboratory diagnostics, digital radiography, ultrasonography, orthopedic surgery, ophthalmology, and many others. Large Animal Services (n

ot all inclusive): Pregnancy checking, reproductive services, vaccination protocols and herd wellness, Bangs vaccinations, fertility testing, ultrasonography, digital radiography, and many more. Indian Hammer Veterinary Services has two veterinarians on staff. Dr. Cale Bjornstad - A graduate of Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine with a special interest in large animal medicine. Dr. Trace Nydam - A graduate of Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine with a special interest in small animal orthopedic surgery. Together, the team has been providing quality care to the greater Great Falls area for many years. With a focus in exceptional patient care and wellness, their friendly and caring approach to animal health has left many clients happy and satisfied.

If your dog struggles with anxiety during fireworks, now is the time to contact us about anxiety medication or other calming options. Fireworks can be stressful for our furry friends, and planning ahead can help keep them safe and comfortable during the holiday weekend.

⚠️ Please note: In order for medications to be prescribed, pets must have had a wellness exam within the past year and have a current weight on file.

Closed through the holiday weekend

Please call before Friday if your pet may need medication, as we will be unavailable after noon on July 3rd.

Due to the rapidly changing nature of New World Screwworm (NWS) cases in Texas and the case identified in New Mexico, the Montana Department of Livestock (MDOL) has updated the emergency order placing import restrictions on all animals coming from Texas and New Mexico.

All animals moving out of an INFESTED ZONE in Texas and New Mexico must have a permit from the state of origin as well as official identification, treatment for NWS, an interstate CVI issued within 5 days of travel to Montana, and a statement on the CVI stating that the animals have been inspected and are free from wounds and evidence of NWS infestation. These requirements should be consistent with state of origin requirements for infested zone movements.

All animals leaving a STATE WITH AN INFESTED ZONE must have a CVI issued within 5 days of travel to Montana, official ID, and a statement on the CVI stating that the animals have been inspected and are free from wounds and evidence of NWS infestation.

NWS detections are rapidly evolving. Ensure you are getting accurate information from the Montana Department of Livestock or your veterinarian if you plan on traveling.

🦷 Why Do We Pull Teeth in Dogs & Cats? 🐶🐱
(Spoiler: It’s never because we “just want to.”)

One of the hardest conversations we have in veterinary medicine is recommending tooth extractions during a dental procedure. We understand hearing “your pet needs teeth removed” can feel scary, surprising, or even frustrating.

But here’s the truth: we do not remove teeth unless there is a medical reason.

Unlike humans, our pets can’t tell us when their mouth hurts. Many dogs and cats continue eating, playing, and acting “normal” even with significant dental pain—because instinct tells them to hide discomfort.

So why would a tooth need to be removed?

🦷 Severe periodontal disease – Infection below the gumline can destroy the structures holding the tooth in place.

🦷 Broken or fractured teeth – Exposed nerves are painful and can lead to infection.

🦷 Tooth root abscesses – Infection at the root can cause swelling, pain, and systemic illness.

🦷 Tooth resorption (especially in cats!) – A painful condition where the tooth essentially begins to break down from within.

🦷 Loose, infected, or non-viable teeth – Teeth that are beyond saving can become a constant source of pain.

A painful tooth is like living with a constant toothache… except your pet can’t tell you.
