A desire to find an alternative to what I consider a self-destructive lifestyle that grew out of the country's 'use it once and throw it away' philosophy which replaced the hated rationing of World War 2 days and led economists into the practice of measuring progress by the rate at which we turn our natural resources into junk. Man's system of moving nutrients from the farm to the ocean by way of sewers and moving industrial materials from the mines to the landfills, is not a viable lifestyle.
