Educational content My name is Heather Herring, owner of UD-P Therapy.

I first got involved in horses back in 2019 when I met a little cart horse morgan and began barrel racing. I became dedicating to educating and training for the next few years purchasing rescues and even doing some resales. That is, until meeting my main horse. He wasn't just a typical retraining and building calories, he had a severe muscle issue making him unrideable which stemmed from a dental

problem. That is how I got introduced to massage therapy, and decided to learn how to do it myself to best help him. My business started from listening to my horse, and now I dedicate my career to listening to every horse. I have continued my education the best I can, dedicating myself to other certifications including my BWFA farrier certification. It is my number 1 priority to improve your horses health, so please PM to schedule.

Everyone meet Nico! Did you know donkey care is often skipped? Donkeys need many of the same things horses need!

Dental yearly, farrier work every 4 to 6 weeks, and even bodywork consistently! Many donkeys ive worked with that appear stubborn often just need a little bodywork to realize muscle tension! They can be in pain too!!

Please dont skip out on donkey health care to save money! Dental and farrier work are espeacily important but im sure they wouldnt mind a spa day either 😉

Little Nico here really needed his teeth done, he was long overdue. And because one of his prior homes used to drag him by the ears instead of haltering, this combination led to some pretty severe poll and neck tension. I haven't done a full session on him yet because im still working to earn his trust, however im sure ill find more as I continue to work through his fear.

Callahan Equine Dental Services came out to work on the crew today and I figured this would be the perfect time to discuss why dental is so important!

Rocket is done on a 6 month schedule, and the rest of my crew done yearly, to ensure the teeth have no sharp edges or other problems that could cause pain.

If this is not upkept it can cause many joint and muscle issues. This is often in the poll, tmj, cervical spine, thoracic spine, and neck/back muscles however it can affect essentially the whole body right down to the feet due to compensation patterns that arise. All of these spots can cause incredible pain, and heavily affect a horses performance.

Some symptoms to look for if your teeth may need done include
Fighting undersaddle *buck, rear, aggression*
Mouth agape
Ears pinned
Aggression on ground (often from poll tension due to teeth)
Bit sour
Head tossing
Even tail swishing when bit pressure is applied!
Poor performance
Difficult to turn OR stop
Difficulty engaging back + hind end or gain collection

Although, if these symptoms arise you are clearly OVERDUE for dental. Please keep your horses on schedule yearly at bare minimum. Rocket, due to his progressive parrot mouth, is always upkept every 6 months and horses with known issues (especially reccomended by a dentist or vet) should do the same.

Very happy with Callahan's work on my horses, their teeth are looking so nice!! Be sure to keep up with your horses dental!

Check out this little guy standing in his stall, today!!!

The good news is that Ruby is doing very well. She will probably be ready to come home tomorrow. The foal is also holding his own and is standing and moving around a bit, in between his naps. We got to see him stand up while we were visiting today!

Unfortunately, due to the traumatic birth and being separated from the baby for an extended period while he was stabilized, Ruby has rejected the baby. This means that he is currently being tube fed until he is strong enough to learn to drink from a bucket. He will require frequent feedings once he comes home, so this will definitely keep our trainers very busy!

After examination of the placenta, the vets have also discovered that were some abnormalities in it, which almost certainly is responsible for some of the foal’s struggles.

Baby is being given antibiotics and closely monitored to make sure that he is okay. He has a moderate case of Dummy Foal Syndrome, which is a neurological condition that can occur in traumatic births. This can range in severity, and includes issues like poor sucking reflexes, lack of coordination and trouble standing, listlessness, and more. The vets are doing everything in their power to help him pull through this, but he is not out of the woods yet.

If you would like to donate towards the cost of the hospital bill, you can do so through this post directly, or by using the links located in the comments. Edit: the estimate we have been provided is between $6k-10k for the little one and the cost of the birth.

What an amazing opportunity! These minis were so cute!
