People forget that dogs are not always the most confident. So little obstacles like putting dogs on top of things that are shaky, things that are taller than them, putting them in a uncomfortable position can help build a lot of confidence in your dog. If you do not have stairs and a dog has never seen stairs I recommend teaching Dog how to go up and downstairs because when they do encounter it, they may be a little timid, and you don’t want that down the line as they get older. If you can get to a obedience course, definitely take your dog through each obstacle to create a better bond between you guys as well as confidence within your dog.
You can see here Rudy was very uncomfortable with stairs and anything that he’s unfamiliar with. After a few days of doing stairs and showing him that it’s OK to go through obstacles with whoever is handling him to have a more positive outcome at the end he tends to follow better through unknown and unpredictable stimuluses better.
