Look at these little bird dogs go! 🐾🦆

At 7 weeks and 5 days old, our Reba × Trip Labrador puppies are already showing off those natural retrieving instincts! Watching them chase a bird wing through the grass is one of my favorite parts of raising hunting Labradors.

It’s amazing how young that drive starts showing up. The curiosity, the noses, the determination, it’s all there!

These little guys are getting ready to head to their new families, and I’m sure going to miss having them running around the ranch.

All eight puppies from this litter have found their homes, and I couldn’t be happier with this cross. ❤️

There’s nothing quite like coming home. ❤️

I just got back from California’s Central Coast after several days covering some incredible rodeo events for Ropers Sports News. I love being out on the road, but coming home to the ranch—and especially to puppies—is pretty hard to beat.

Puppies bring me so much joy, and I truly love raising dogs. 🐾

Our Reba × Trip litter, born September 4, is growing like weeds! Today was nail-trimming day, with Auntie Dolly in the background doing her best to keep everybody entertained while I worked. 😂

They’re healthy, happy, getting more playful every day, and we have spots available.

Our Reba × Trip litter was born September 4, 2026, and we’ve hit one of my favorite stages—their little eyes are starting to open, they’re moving around more every day, and suddenly there’s a whole lot more action in the puppy box.

We’re especially proud of the sire behind our Reba × Trip litter, Broken Stone’s See Ya Next Fall, MH — “Trip.”

Trip is a Master Hunter and Master National qualifier, with the kind of drive, trainability, natural retrieving ability, and working pedigree that serious Labrador people pay attention to.

His pedigree is stacked with accomplished field dogs, including FC, AFC, MH, NFC and NAFC titled Labradors, with dogs like FC AFC Buster Posey MH, NFC FC AFC Five Star General Patton, NAFC FC AFC Carbon Copy of Horn Creek, NAFC FC AFC Ebonstar Lean Mac, and FC AFC Gunstock’s Topshelf Snap Decision behind him.

That matters because we didn’t choose Trip just because he’s a handsome black dog. We chose him because he brings proven field ability, intelligence, athleticism, bird drive, trainability, and generations of working genetics to this cross.

If you have ever wondered where to find a true American Labrador bred for the field, you have found us. Calaveras Labradors sits in the foothills of Calaveras County, where we raise gun dogs with the nose, drive, and heart to work all day. Many of ours even point like a pointer, because that is how they are bred and trained.

Our two-year-old red fox female, born right here at the ranch, was just bred this week to a phenomenal black Labrador carrying champion genetics on both sides. These black Lab puppies are due mid-September, and this is exactly the kind of litter families wait years to find.
