We wanted to take a moment to show you a before and after of a dental cleaning and highlight some of the many reasons as to why dentals are so important!🦷🪥🐾

What do dentals for an animal entail?
During dentals a vet tech will clean, scale, and polish your pets teeth and can place dental sealant for you as well. If extractions are needed a Veterinarian will step in a take out the necessary teeth using dental elevators.

Why are they crucial?
By the time most pets are 3 years old they’ll already show signs of dental disease. Dental disease can be avoided or at least steadily maintained by taking your pet in for annual or bi-annual dentals if at-home dental care is practiced. Avoiding dentals for your pet can lead to things like tooth abscesses’, halitosis (bad breath), fractured teeth that go unnoticed, and in severe cases dental disease can lead to organ issues over time (specifically the heart, liver, and kidneys) to name a few.

MFD Quarter Horses brought in a couple mare’s this afternoon to see how large their follicles were with the ultrasound and Dr. Haley’s knowledge; this practice helps breeders to know when they can inseminate their horses! They also brought along the foals that these momma’s recently had, which our staff greatly appreciated🥰

Here are some equine gestation facts!

• The gestation length for horses is 11 months, usually spanning between 330-360 days🐴🍼
• Once labor begins it normally takes about 15-30min before a baby is born. The foal takes about an hour to stand, two hours to nurse, and are running like maniacs within the next day or so!🤪
•Mares can be bred very quickly after having their foals, sometimes just a week after during their “foal heat cycle”, or you can wait about 25-30 days
