It was a sweet first meet for Sunday and Teddy. Watching them interact was what clenched the decision for the team. This is a great match!

Previously during both visits with Sunday and her potential “person” we could see the connection. Sunday was curious and playful and Monicka had what we call “the adopters smile”. They spent time getting acquainted and they clicked.

Sunday is young so she is going home as a “project horse”. And her “person” Monicka is experienced with and adores the Arabian breed. She also has a solid Arabian experienced trainer she trusts. What more could we ask? This is a great match!

Sunday has found her person
a new best friend in Teddy
and a second chance for a wonderful new life. Hope is good.💜

Hickory always has time to swing by and say hello. This beautiful and sensitive soul is looking for her pasture mate and her own special person to share a wonderful new life with.
If you have room in your heart for this beautiful mare please reach out to Hope. Hickory is available for adoption as a pasture companion.💜

Doing all we can to help the Hope herd beat the summer heat. Lots of bathing throughout the day, salt, electrolytes of course always shade and fresh water too. In these temperatures the Hope herd is checked minimally every morning, mid-day and evening for signs of heat stress. The team is also keeping a close watch on each other sharing the load, taking breaks in the shade, drinking lots of water and of course snacking on popsicles! When was the last time you had a popsicle?

TBT! It is quiet in the pasture now that all of the babies have been adopted and gone home but the memories will keep them in our hearts forever. Such an incredible experience to have rescued eight foals from a horrible neglect situation and know that we made a difference. They all made it through to the good side of life strong, healthy and well adjusted. Hope is good!💜

It was farrier day and Jackson seemed to enjoy being pampered. We suspect it wasn’t necessarily Ronnie (sorry Ronnie) but he really seemed to enjoy Sandy’s attentiveness. 🥰

These HOT days are hard on Appy. This sweet mare stands patiently three times a day for a cool down. Appy is our blind horse who is being treated for Cushing’s. The disease makes it hard for her to regulate her body temperature (and adds a few pounds too) so cool downs are her new routine. Good girl Appy!💜

So this happened! Time for Sunshine to step in and Butterscotch did not agree! Scotchie wanted her stall back but Sunshine rolled with the punches and still had a great session in human touch this morning! We wanted to shake things up for Sunshine and really didn’t need help from Scotchie but hey what are pasture mates for?🫣. Good girl Sunshine! Thanks Scotchie - NOT!🤣

Do you remember Sunshine? She arrived last September with the eight foals during the Cowley county neglect seizure case. She was unhandled yet she progressed beautifully under the dedication of one volunteer which was what she needed to feel safe. Shannon made great strides with Sunshine and has brought her to this point.

Now Sunshine’s progress has plateaued. She is only comfortable with Shannon and will accept the presence of others but only if Shannon is also there with her. It is time for a shake up! Sunshine needs to step into the next phase and begin to trust people in general. The work is challenging and she is a bit confused but this is what she needs. It is hard to see her struggle but we will continue to work with her and fight for her. Please show beautiful Sunshine some love.💜

The first hint was a long hug in the stall. Poncho’s eyes were droopy and he didn’t seem to want to move. Then the tell tale sign after he finally stepped out? Poncho laid down right behind his stall and Hickory stood watch. Poncho was telling us he didn’t feel good and needed our help.

He had a belly ache and the goal was to prevent a full blown colic episode. With meds on board and thirty minutes of hand walking about the pasture with his girls Hickory and Fontana right by his side we are happy to share that Poncho is fine. He released the gas build up and gave us a nice p**p! An hour later he and his ladies were noshing on hay.💜

Understanding their behaviors.
Knowing how to listen.
Realizing when they are asking for help.
And quickly stepping into action.💜
