Sometimes groomers notice health changes before anyone else does.

And honestly, that’s not because owners aren’t paying attention. Life is busy. You see your dog every single day, so tiny changes can happen gradually without standing out right away.

But groomers? We’re seeing and feeling your dog up close during every appointment.

That means sometimes we notice things like new lumps, irritated skin, ear infections starting, changes in mobility, sore spots, or even tics hiding under all that fluff.

There have been so many times I’ve gently mentioned something to an owner and they’ve said,
“Oh wow… I hadn’t even noticed that.”

And that’s exactly why routine grooming matters so much.
It’s not just about looking cute after an appointment. It’s another set of caring eyes on your dog’s health and comfort.

Honestly, dogs with owners who keep up with regular grooming appointments are often the ones who get little issues caught earlier — and that can make such a big difference long term. 🐾

Humanity over vanity
What does this mean? In dog grooming this means picking your pet over everything else. It’s when we don’t dry the face bone dry or we scissor the legs instead of using the clippers. We are choosing humanity when we shave Matting instead of brushing it out.
It’s a culmination of knowledge, skill, technique, experience and compassion.

By choosing humanity over vanity we are helping to build a confident trusting grooming dog with positive experiences.

We don’t want your dog to reach its threshold. We don’t ever want to get them to a place where they are shaking, pooping, crying, biting or puking in fear. It is our job together to help them instead of hindering them. Communicate with your groomer, know how they will handle your dogs specific needs. Will they hold them down, push them through it, brush until they’re both crying? Or will they slow down, try a different approach, give breaks, shave the matting?

Good day.
My name is Eric and I am now the main Groomer at Barker's Groom & Board in Valdosta, GA.

I would like to start by assuring you that in no way am I "begging" for handouts.

I would like it to be known that ANY of your local kennels will accept any dog food, treats, and even money to help care for those poor, unfortunate animals who have been Stray, Abandoned, Abused, Neglected, or simply "Dropped Off".
The numbers are increasing.

You should not need to worry that your good deeds will be accepted with mal intent.

We LOVE our Animals, whether they are our own, a customer or client's, and even a homeless pet, with all of our hearts.
They WILL BE taken care of one way or another.
