Update: Owner found! Being brought home. 🐾

Do you recognize me?

My name is Charlie and I was found on Alamo Dr near Mariposa in Vacaville. My microchip is out of date. My collar has my phone number, but it is illegible. I’m a brown and white cavalier King Charles spaniel. I am sweet as pie and currently with a HAS officer trying to locate the owner. Please contact us at 707-449-1700.

Just a reminder! We are receiving a lot of calls about kittens right now.

Just a reminder! We are receiving a lot of calls about kittens right now.

Kittens of all shapes and sizes have begun to arrive at Solano County Animal Care, and that means that kitten season is upon us! What’s that? Each spring and summer, kittens inundate shelters across the community because warm weather encourages feline reproduction. We call this kitten season– a very busy time for the staff and fosters here at SCAC.
Keeping ahead of kitten season is truly a community effort. We often receive questions regarding how to help. The answer starts with you: DON’T BE A KIT-NAPPER! When we find a litter of kittens, our good-hearted instincts tell us to take them to our local shelter. Unfortunately, we may be doing more harm than good to these kittens by removing them from their nesting place.
The best thing we could possibly do for these kittens is to leave them alone. Momma cat knows what is best for her babies. Because of this, it’s critical that they stay with her. Often she is out hunting and will return to check on and care for all of her babies. We suggest giving her at least eight hours to return before stepping in. In the meantime, you can watch for her from a safe distance, but please don’t hover over her babies. If she sees you, she may be scared and not return.
Kittens should stay with their mothers until they are at least eight weeks old when they are able to get spayed/neutered and find their forever homes!

Do you recognize me?

I’m a 3-5 year old intact male chocolate Labrador Retriever. I am not microchipped, but I’m wearing a camo collar and had a green retractable leash attached to me. I was found by a good samaratine and brought to SPCA. I was transported to Solano County Sheriff's Office Animal Care Division by a HAS Officer

‼️UPDATE‼️

Last night we received an after hours call regarding a dog that was abandoned at Canon Station Park. Sgt Ackerman immediately responded and with the help of Good Samaritans was able to locate the kennel. The dog was missing. She was able to spot the dog once but he was absolutely terrified and ran away. She stayed on scene for a long time and did not spot him again. She left the crate so he would have a safe place to return to through the night.

This morning Officer Moore was out at the location and with the help from another Good Samaritan they were able to confine the sweet dog to the crate. The dog is now safe and sound with the officer.

If anyone has any information on this case please call our dispatch at 707-449-1700 between 8:00am and 5:00pm, we are open 7 days a week.

‼️PARVOVIRUS‼️

Canine Parvovirus is baaaaaad right now. We have had a few cases in the last month and a half, affecting about 30 dogs (most were litters of puppies) in the shelter. These pups came in as strays with the virus already brewing in their system and breaking with clinical signs 4-11 days later. Luckily, we have contained it to certain blocks of cages. Phew. Are we stressed out and exhausted? Yep. We are running through supplies quickly! If you have any or would like to donate, please do!
-Tyvek gowns
-Shoe covers
-Towels

We are going through tests faster than we can order them.

We are treating the active cases and have positive thoughts.

Parvovirus is highly contagious & can be spread so easily that your dog does not even need to leave their yard to contract this disease & you the owner can take it home on the bottom of your shoes or on your clothing. The most common places for contraction of parvo are dog parks, communial potty areas in housing developments, and pet stores. Unvacinated dogs should not visit these areas until the full series of vaccinations is complete. We know it's cute to go get your new puppy a fancy collar and treats, but unfortunately, it's just not safe.

Puppies that have not had their full course of vaccinations, as well as younger dogs who are not vaccinated at all, are most at risk of contracting this horrible disease. If left untreated, the pet generally passes.

WE DO ENCOURAGE YOU TO COME AND ADOPT. Right now all puppies are on a cautionary quarantine.

KEEP IN MIND (THIS APPLIES TO EVERY DAY, NOT JUST THE CRISIS WE ARE CURRENTLY IN) THAT WE DO NOT KNOW WHAT DISEASES ANIMALS BRING INTO THE FACILITY AS WE DON'T HAVE THEIR VACCINE HISTORY. WE TREAT OUR FIELDS WITH THE SAME CAUTION AS YOU WOULD PET STORES/DOG PARKS
