Many of you have received a pamphlet from the county about Low Impact Agritourism for the Pleasants, Vaca, and Lagoon Valleys and reached out to understand what this means, so we thought an update was in order 💫
, , , , , and others have been collaborating with the Solano County Planning Department to develop an Agritourism Overlay for our region that will allow farmers and ranchers to incorporate low-impact agritourism on their properties.
The purpose is to create a way for farmers and ranchers to generate SUPPLEMENTARY income for the farming business, that would help the business thrive. It’s also so that we can offer more experiences to the public while complying with county regulations.
So what does low-impact agritourism look like? Some examples include hay rides, farm tours, farm to table dinners, you-picks, cooking classes, workshops, and more.
Low-impact agritourism is NOT hotels, restaurants, or large event centers - though those things might already be addressed in Chapter 28 of Solano County Code.
The county is hosting a community meeting to gather community input and we hope you’ll attend so that you can learn more about this great opportunity for the farmers and ranchers in our area!
