Just to show how much time and effort went into First Source creating this program - the handsome dog in the picture is Chief! A staff and community favorite, who spent almost 3 years at the shelter. This August will mark one full year since he was adopted!

Pam and Mariann, along with their team from First Source, helped get this program off the ground and were piloting it way back when Chief was still here. It just goes to show how much our community cares about helping our mission succeed.

Poor Prince 🥲

Multiple times a day, visitors stop into the shelter and comment on what a stunning, handsome cat he is - yet no one takes the time to consider adopting him! Prince has been at the shelter since March, when his previous owner was being evicted from their residence.

We’ve learned a bit about Prince during his time here, but mostly that he really needs a home to let his true warm and cuddly self shine through. Prince is 6 years old - fairly calm, keeps to himself, and prefers his own space near the other cats, though he can still live amongst them peacefully. His name is quite fitting because he has, in fact, become the resident Prince of the green room 🫅

Prince can be a little shy with people at first, but with some patience and treats, he is a very loving boy once he settles in. He just needs to find that home where he can truly let his guard down again and feel safe. Prince has also done well when children visit!

Not all foster homes are forever…😔

But they still make a big difference, and now Onyx is back at the shelter and desperately missing what a real home has to offer.

Onyx was in a loving foster home for almost four whole months while completing his heartworm treatment, but unfortunately, he's back at the shelter. Here’s what his foster mom has to say after spending so much time with Onyx:

"He's the sweetest guy ever. All he ever wants to do is spend time with his person - he doesn't care if it’s outside on a walk or cuddling on the couch (and he's a great cuddler). He loves resting his head on your shoulder and being your shadow 🤭. He doesn't play with toys like a regular dog - his love language is very much quality time and physical touch. He LOVES car rides too! As soon as you open the door, he's in and ready to go 🤭. He loves meeting new people - it's just a new person to cuddle with! He's also GREAT with other dogs. Everyone I know has dogs, and I dog-sit a lot. And he just gets along with EVERYONE he meets. He's such an angel. He would make someone so lucky!"

Since returning, his dislike for the kennel has only grown. When he’s outside of the kennel with us, he has the biggest smile on his face - soaking up all the cuddles, fresh air, and walkies. Onyx is 7 years old and gets along with the big three: dogs, cats, and kids! He is neutered, current on vaccines, and microchipped.

1 year, 11 months, 5 days. That is 706 days, almost 101 weeks, and 16,944 hours and counting at the shelter.

One failed application and visit is all Bryce has had in that time. Despite countless posts, ads, and efforts to get him noticed, no one has chosen him – and while he is safe and comfortable with us, we don’t want him to lose hope that there’s more out there.

Bryce arrived in early July of 2023. Shortly after, he spent five months on cage rest to beat heartworm, showing us just how resilient he is. Since then, he has tested well with cats, enjoyed several car rides with staff, and worked on basic commands – proving to be an all-around great companion. But now, the days are ticking away, and Bryce, just like any dog, is over the kennel and begging for a chance to be let out for good.

A very youthful 8 years old, Bryce still has plenty of energy and personality. No senior pup deserves to be in a shelter – especially not for nearly two years. He walks beautifully on a leash, loves rolling in the grass, requires regular belly rubs, and is big on butt scratches. He enjoys the outdoors and chasing toys – but he also loves to relax and curl up with a cozy blanket. Once Bryce knows and loves you, you’re his - all he wants is a companion.

We’re a day late for Fat Cat Friday, but there’s no way you could miss Greyson 😍

Greyson has some extra fluff and love to give, and he’s ready to get out of the shelter and show it all off for good. His shelter story is a bit sad - he was originally brought in as a stray back in 2019 and later adopted in early 2020. But after being scared of the dogs in his home, he was returned to us five years later.

At almost 6 years old, we’re searching for a home where Greyson never has to worry about coming back to us. After all these transitions, he can be a bit timid at first, but once he gathers up a little courage, he’s the friendliest boy 🥰

Once you earn his trust, he’ll want nothing more than your attention - belly rubs, pets anywhere and everywhere, and kisses. Please help us share Greyson and find him the home, love, and stability he deserves for the rest of his life.

How is this low rider still here? 😍

Meet our new favorite boy, Cumba! Cumba came to us as a stray this past winter and was sadly returned when his family could no longer care for him due to personal circumstances. It was a heartfelt goodbye, and we promised them we’d find him the best home to fulfill all his next big hopes and dreams.

Cumba is a total charmer. He loves people and will happily push his head right into your lap for attention as soon as he meets you. We estimate him to be around senior age, but you’d never know it from the energy, laughs, and s***k he has to give. Cumba would make the perfect addition to ANY home!

Cumba was a perfect boy during our Paws & Pages Program ribbon cutting this week. He happily greeted everyone and sat quietly, accepting all the cuddles during the speeches. He loves figuring out how to chew on hard toys - but when it comes to soft toys and blankets, he sucks on them like a baby 🤭

Cumba lived with other dogs in his previous home, so we’re open to meets with dogs and children. We’re also happy to cat test him if his future family has any feline friends!

Look at Finn's much-needed transformation 😍

Finn is a 3 year old Poodle/Doodle of sorts, and he is the cutest and sweetest boy we know! He also gives the BEST hugs ever. Finn came to us after a good Samaritan took him from an Amish breeder - she wasn’t able to keep him but wanted to make sure he was safe, and we were happy to help.

He came in fairly matted and dirty, so we want to give a big shoutout to Dawn from Dawn's Dawgs for Finn’s amazing haircut and day of pampering. She’s always stepping up to help us when we’re in need ❤

Finn is up for adoption, and we hope that now that you can see this boy’s cute face, it won’t be for long. Finn is very friendly and warms up quickly. He’s housebroken, does great in the car, loves to burn off some energy, and gets along with other animals and kids!
