🐾 Playtime Is Connection Time 🐾

Life gets busy this time of year — holiday prep, packed schedules, and to-do lists that seem to grow by the minute. But your dog doesn’t know any of that… they just know how happy they are when you take a moment to play.

Let this be your reminder to pause today, step outside, and enjoy a little joy-filled playtime with your pup. A quick tug session, a few minutes of fetch, or a silly game inside can do wonders for their wellbeing — and yours too.

A little play goes a long way.

🎄 Holiday Tip: Decorating With Dogs in Mind! 🐾
As we head into the festive season, this is your gentle reminder to keep your pup’s safety front and center while decking the halls.

Dogs experience the world through their mouths and noses, which means holiday décor can be very tempting. A few things to keep in mind:

✨ Ornaments:
Avoid placing fragile, edible, or sentimental ornaments at dog-level. Shiny objects look like toys, and broken ornaments can cause injuries.

✨ Tree Water:
If you have a real tree, cover the water basin. Pine sap, fertilizers, and stagnant water can make dogs sick if they drink it.

✨ Cords & Lights:
Keep electrical cords tucked away or covered. Chewing can lead to burns or electrical shock. Use cord protectors when possible.

✨ Tinsel & Garland:
These can be dangerous if swallowed, especially for curious puppies. Opt for safer décor alternatives.

✨ Secure the Tree:
A bumped tree can tip easily—use a sturdy base or anchor the tree to a wall to help prevent accidents.

✨ Scented Items:
Potpourri, essential oils, and some holiday plants (like poinsettias, mistletoe, and lilies) can be irritating or toxic to dogs. Keep them up high or out of the home.

Your dog will appreciate a calm, safe environment—and you’ll enjoy a season with fewer unexpected surprises.

Stay festive, stay safe, and give your pup some extra love this holiday season!

🐾 If only we could all literally jump over the chaos of the holiday weekend like this superstar pup. 🐾

As we wrap up the whirlwind of shopping, cooking, family time, and to-dos, here’s your gentle reminder to take a breath, smile, and celebrate the small wins — like a perfectly timed leap or a moment of peace on the couch with your dog.

Here’s to jumping into the rest of the season with joy, resilience, and maybe a little extra spring in our step.

🐾 Holiday Tip: Safe Thanksgiving Treats for Your Pup 🐾
The holidays are a wonderful time to gather, celebrate, and, of course, enjoy great food. But before those puppy-dog eyes win you over at the dinner table, let’s talk about safe holiday sharing (and how to use it to support good training skills!).

🍗 Safe, Dog-Friendly Options:
If you’d like to include your pup in the festivities, a few plain foods can be great for training reinforcement:
• Turkey – boneless, skinless, unseasoned
• Sweet potatoes – plain, cooked
• Green beans – fresh or cooked without seasoning
• Pumpkin purée – 100% pumpkin (not pumpkin pie mix!)
• Carrots or apples – chopped into small, manageable treats

These can be perfect for rewarding calm behavior during busy gatherings or reinforcing skills like “place,” “wait,” or “check-in.”

🚫 Foods to Avoid (Some Are Dangerous!):
Keep these festive favorites off your dog’s menu entirely:
• Stuffing (onions, garlic, spices—big no)
• Turkey skin or bones
• Gravy
• Chocolate & desserts
• Grapes, raisins, and anything sweetened with xylitol
• Casseroles or creamy dishes

These can cause anything from upset stomachs to serious medical emergencies.

A Fear Free Approach to Holiday Success - Holiday gatherings can be overwhelming for many dogs. Supporting their emotional wellbeing is just as important as managing their food safety.

Here are a few Fear Free-inspired tips:
• Provide a quiet retreat space away from the commotion
• Keep training sessions short, positive, and fun
• Use safe holiday foods as reinforcement for calm, confident behavior
• Avoid pressure or forcing interactions—let your dog choose when to engage

Keeping your dog comfortable, supported, and reinforced for good choices helps everyone enjoy the day stress-free.

However you celebrate this Thanksgiving, we hope you and your pups have a safe, happy, and well-reinforced holiday!

Our Story

Happy, well trained dogs don’t just happen. At Canine Craze Performance Center we believe the key to effective training is understanding canine learning and effective communication. We teach owners to communicate with their puppies and dogs by luring, shaping and capturing acceptable behaviors. We believe training for both the dogs and people must be positive, productive, and FUN!

Our story started with the Late Scott Jetter, Founder of Canine Craze, inspired people for years through dog training. During his years of teaching he motivated Canine Craze trainers and clients to go outside their comfort zone, push the envelope, and be innovative. He inspired people to be the best they could be, always ask “why?”, and taught with compassion. Many trainers and clients remember him and his many shenanigans, such as his catchy phrase, “Have the Best Day EVER!”. Canine Craze’s trainers and staff are honored to continue his legacy. http://www.caninecraze.com/our-team/scott-jetter/

Scott and Renee (current owner) met at Canine Craze. Renee Jetter started her career with dogs when she was 9 years old by volunteering for her local animal shelter. By the young age of 12, Renee received the “Pets Choice Award” for her kindness and love of animals, in addition to her dedication and work ethic. Jetter has been professionally training dogs since her graduation from the Animal Behavior College in 2006. She has experience competing in obedience, training service dogs, conducting group classes and teaching private lessons. Jetter has designed and implemented successful dog training programs for Obedience, Puppy, and Therapy, as well as the popular Canine Craze’s Train & Play™ program. In 2015 Jetter completed her certification through Karen Pryor Academy as Certified Training Partner and in 2019 Jetter attained her Certified Canine Fitness Trainer through the University of Tennessee. Jetter was the Lead Trainer for the non-profit service dog organization, Puppy Jake Foundation, from it’s inception in 2013 through February 2018 where she has designed and implemented their original service dog training program.

Jetter continues to enjoy attending and hosting national seminars and workshops, including: ClickerExpo, Ken Ramirez, Kathy Sdao, Pia Silvani, Emelie Johnson Vegh, Eva Bertilsson, K-9 Nose Work, and TAGteach. http://www.caninecraze.com/our-team/renee-jetter/
