Hospice Hearts

Hospice Hearts Hospice Hearts is a 501(c)3 all-volunteer, foster-based animal rescue licensed by the IL Dept of AG EIN 47-5247265

Established as an independent organization in 2015, Hospice Hearts is an all-volunteer, foster-based animal rescue based in Urbana, Illinois. We provide care and adoption to any age of cats and dogs whose owners are no longer able to care for them due to nursing home admission, serious illness, or death. Many Hospice Hearts cats and dogs would be deemed unadoptable in a traditional shelter environ

ment and euthanized due to advanced age or health issues. We are proud to provide an alternative for these beloved pets when their owners are no longer able to care for them. A 501(c)3 tax-exempt organization licensed by the Illinois Department of Agriculture, Hospice Hearts serves cats and dogs in the foster care environment until time of adoption. As space permits, we accept pets directly from owners in need as well as transfers from shelters and animal controls around the state meeting our criteria.

Meet Reggie!

Reggie is a young boy with a lot of energy. He loves nothing better than to play/wrestle with the other kitties in his foster home. Reggie has realized that laps are nice place to cuddle & sleep. This little guy came to Hospice Hearts after a rescuer saw him tumble out from under a vehicle on the road. The rescuer brought him to Good Friends Animal Hospital to recover. The only sign of any injury is a mark on the his lip where is tongue occasionally stick out. Reggie will need a buddy to play with. Reggie has been neutered, microchipped, up to date on vaccinations, FIV & FeLV negative, on monthly flea prevention, and negative test for intestinal parasites.

If you want to add this playful handsome boy to your family, please fill out an application at https://www.hospiceheartsanimalrescue.org/cat-adoption-application

Meet Kia

Kia is a smart and talented kitten looking for her forever home. She who adores being around others. She is great around small dogs, and prefers to be around other cats. Though she could be a food bully, she is quick to learn boundaries and respects the space of her paw friends. To make her day, she would enjoy a nice pet rub, and interactive toys to keep her wild side entertained. She is one who enjoys sleeping next to her human daily with lots of play-time. She is adventurous, and likes to get into places high and low, with no regrets. If you are looking for a forever fun companion, I think Kia is it! Kia is currently at a foster with other cats and a small dog. She is estimated have been born in May 2024.

Meet Borzoi!

Poodle and Borzoi seem to rely on each other whenever something new happens in their foster's house. When he came to Hospice Hearts after his owner entered Hospice, Borzoi was shy but the first to let his foster pet him. Now, he loves to seek out attention and loves being held. He has become quite the snuggler. He also enjoys just being in the same room as his foster family. He loves breakfast and isn't afraid to vocalize it. He and Poodle have a nice, loud morning routine now.

Both get along with their foster siblings (cats & a dog).

Borzoi is fixed, and up to date on his vaccines and preventatives. Poodle is not required to be adopted with Borzoi but they would love to stay together if you have room for two more friends.

Meet Poodle!

Poodle and Borzoi seem to rely on each other whenever something new happens in their foster's house. Poodle is the curious one, venturing out to watch what's going on fairly often but keeping her distance at first. They are attention seekers and like hanging out in the same room with their foster and Poodle loves to sleep in bed. They both love breakfast and aren't afraid to vocalize it. They have a nice, loud morning routine now. Poodle can take a bit to get comfortable but her personality really shines once someone is willing to give her a chance.

Poodle gets along with their foster siblings (cats & a dog).

Poodle is fixed, and up to date on her vaccines and preventatives. Poodle is not required to be adopted with Borzoi but they would love to stay together if you have room for two more friends.

Meet Red!

Red is one of our rainbow puppies (now a year old!) and he is definately the biggest attention seeker of the bunch, as he loves to be the center of attention. He is playful, energetic and attention seeking. He enjoys time outside, getting attention and kibble. He is starting to learn his basic commands like sit, come, down and is used to staying in a crate, walking on a leash, and is potty trained. He is still working on building up his confidence and would benefit from a confident doggy companion. We believe he is definately the smallest of the litter and likely close to his full height as a nice medium sized dog (some of the photos above are his baby photos)

He can be loud when he is in a crate and knows people are in the home so we do not recommend him for apartments. We do think he would do best in a home with another dog and has been fostered with multiple other dogs.

We estimate their birthday to be around July 28th. Red is up to date on age appropriate vaccines, has had a clear f***l and recieves monthly preventatives. He has been fixed and is ready to adopt.

Meet Stuart!

Stuart is a little mischievous, smart prankster. He loves playing with his sister, and sometimes bullying her by eating her food. He's an intelligent boy who learns his way around the house and figures out how things work. Though he is playful, he loves to cuddle and sleep with you.

While he came to HH with his sister, Stuart can be a bit of a bully and may do better as an only cat.

Meet Cricket!

Cricket is a sweet loveable young cat who wants nothing more than cuddles and plenty of play time. When you walk into her room, she starts purring and chirping for attention. She will rub against your leg, cuddle in your arms or climb onto your shoulder. She gets along with other cats and is currently housed multiple foster siblings and previously lived with Jannie. She came to HHAR in really rough condition, she was skeletal thin, with patchy fur and a persistent upper respitory infection. A couple months of TLC later and she is a happy and healthy kitten, the only signs of her past remaining are the patches of fur that are still growing out and an occasional wheeze.

Cricket is spayed, up to date on vaccines and has had a clear f***l.

HHAR does require kittens to be adopted into homes that either already have a playful young cat or be adopted in pairs.

Meet Angus

Angus is loveable boy. He seems to prefer men over women but that doesn't stop him from making friends with everyone he meets. He is crate trained, knows the commands "sit" and "paw". He was noisey the first couple days with us but has been quite in his cage since. He also walks on a leash though he pulls when a squirrel or rabbit catches his interest. For a 2.5-3 year old he is pretty calm but can be riled up when rough housing with a friend. He will occasionally jump when excited and used to jump when his owners returned home, we are working on teaching him the command "off" to stop him from jumping but he calms down quickly. He has never bitten anyone, is not food aggressive and has been to the dog park many times without problems. Overall, Angus is just a happy go lucky kinda guy.

Angus ended up with us do to no fault of his own. His owners had unexpected medical issues that prevented them from safely caring for a large dog.

Due to his size and his tendancy to jump when excited we do not recommend he be adopted into a family with young children or children not used to large dogs.

Angus is neutered, up to date on his vaccinations, and microchipped.
