In loving memory of Gunk Gilbert

Our Gunk crossed the rainbow bridge October 5th 2025. He will be forever missed by his parents, Dow Gilbert and Kelly Brown and his Great Dane siblings, Luther Tibbs, Emberlynn and Nymeria, and his skunk brother Charlie Starr.

Gunk was born in April of 2022. He became part of our pack May 30th, 2022. Gunk was only 9 oz when he came to live with us and he could fit in the palm of our hand. His big personality was evident from the start. He enjoyed spending time with his siblings and he would get right in the middle of the three dogs with no fear at all. I'm not sure he realized he was a skunk, he was the littlest Dane. One of his favorite things to do was chase his mom, though mom didn't enjoy it as much. He loved to nuggle with his dad. They would take walks and chase each other around the house. His absolute favorite thing was getting up with his dad in the mornings when it was just the two of them. That time together was special to them both. He loved smelling dad's shoes and had to inspect them everyday. He would steal dad's socks every chance he got. He would collect things from all of us to take back to his sleeping area, dad's socks, mom's nightgown, dog toys, bath towels. Any personal item was fair game.

Gunk loved dinner time. His favorite foods were bacon, mac and cheese, marshmallows, and cheesecake.. He liked to groom himself after dinner. He would wash his little face and hands. He would sleep under Mom and Dad's bed and they loved to hear him purr and coo in his sleep.

Gunk was a funny little guy and he brought joy to his family. He was very smart and he would often surprise us with the things he did. His nightly patrols around the house will be missed. It was like had to check everything out before he could settle in for the night. Mom is really going to miss him stomping at her. His loss is felt everyday and the house is not the same without him. We were blessed to have him.

Gunker you will be forever in our hearts, always loved, and never ever forgotten and your loss will be forever felt. You brought so much joy and laughter to our lives. No doubt we will be telling Gunk stories years from now. You are such a special part of our lives and we love you so very much. Thank you Gunk for being part of our family.

Rest easy Gunk until we see you again.
Hugs and kisses,
Your pack

October is a fun and festive month, but it can be a risky time for black cats. Their dark coats make them more vulnerable to mischief and accidents, especially around Halloween... :( Please keep your feline friends indoors, watch for strays in your neighborhood, and remind others to show extra kindness and care.

Let’s make sure every black cat stays safe, loved, and protected this spooky season.

Today, we honor the many lives that were taken on September 11, 2001. We also honor the thousands of rescue workers from across America deployed to ground zero to help in the search and rescue efforts. Joining the endeavor were dogs specially trained in search and rescue, police work, therapy and comfort. It is estimated that more than 300 dogs took part in the search, rescue and recovery efforts at ground zero.

"International Dog Day celebrates all breeds, mixed and pure and serves to help galvanize the public to recognize the number of dogs that need to be rescued each year, either from public shelters, rescues and pure breed rescues.
National Dog Day honors family dogs and dogs that work selflessly to save lives, keep us safe and bring comfort. Dogs put their lives on the line every day - protecting our families and homes, for their law enforcement partner, for their blind companion, for the disabled, for our freedom and safety by detecting bombs and drugs and helping to locate and rescue victims of accidents and tragedy."

🐾 Helping Cats, One Clinic at a Time 🐾
*** PLEASE SHARE***

In just one year, PAWS Animal Shelter has sold 225 spay/neuter vouchers to help cats in our community. Thanks to the generosity of our supporters, we’ve already hosted 9 clinics this year, providing hundreds of cats with the care they need.

But the need is still great; each day we recieve around 20 phone calls or Facebook messages asking if we are able to take in cats. Every clinic reduces cat overpopulation, prevents suffering, and gives more animals a healthier, happier future. 💛

👉 Each clinic costs $1,000 to host. Sponsorships can be made by one donor or shared among several animal lovers who want to make a difference.

With your help, we can continue offering these life-saving clinics throughout the year. 🐱💜

📩 To sponsor (or co-sponsor) a clinic, please contact us at at (937) 653-6233 or donate directly at www.pawsurbana.org.

Together, we can change lives—one clinic at a time. 🌻

In Loving Memory of Isabella Shafer

Our beloved Old English Bulldog, Isabella Shafer departed this world peacefully in her home to become an angel on 7/30/25. She will be dearly missed by her Pet Parents George, Nichole(Herron) Shafer and her loving boys Reese, Bailey, and Holden Shafer. Her pet sibling’s “Greyson Cat, Bailey “Tink Tink” (Cat), and Blooper David (Cat) and of course her Best Friend and Niece Winter Louise (Husky Dog). She is preceded in death by Miss Kitty (cat) and her very missed boy Bailey Shafer. Isabella would be 10years old in August and has long been regarded as Princess or Sister Dog in our house. This title has been loving given to her due to being spoiled to rottenness by her Boys and Parents.

Isabella has graced our lives with all the pup kisses and snuggles one adorable fat bully dog can provide. She greeted all the guests that came to our home with great joy and lots of barks but was always most excited when welcoming her family home at the end of each day. Every time we left the house she welcomed us home with tail wags, excitement and as many pup kisses as a person could stand.

Pets and Children come with an unconditional kind of love that really can’t be explained. It’s a love that runs as deep as the ocean, high as the stars and is a feeling that lasts longer than most of our memories. I wish I had the right words to express how much love and joy that my Isabella has given me and my family over the years, we often told her how much we loved our “Sissy Girl” but, you always wonder was it enough. As these things do not come with a manual, I often think you do the best you can with what you have and at the end of it all hope that you get more things right than wrong. I know that we got one thing right when we brought home our bulldog puppy in 2015. She has brought smiles and love to our family her whole life and we will have an even bigger hole in our hearts now that she has become an Angel.

I take comfort in knowing that she is no longer sad or in pain. She will no longer be confused at the end of each day when the car door to a red accord no longer opens, and she is welcomed with scoops from her Bailey boy. Whom she has been patiently waiting for on our porch and missing for the last eight months. I know now that they are together in heaven and Izzy is showering her Bailey Boy with all her pup kisses and happily catching up on missed snuggles. Together again, in heaven where they will have to wait patiently for each of us to join in our own time.

Though she is no longer by our side she will forever be in our hearts, forever loved and never forgotten but, now she has wings instead of short little legs and can be as “Fast Fast “as she…. always thought she was.

Waiting for the day when we’ll see you again…. Hugs and Kisses…..
Love Your Family
