Companion Animal Foundation Our Community Adoption Center is a place for enjoyment and education. We love being able to provide this unique experience to our community!

Companion Animal Foundation is a 501(c)3 non-profit animal rescue organization formed in 2002 in response to the high euthanasia rate of adoptable animals in Humboldt County. This is where we keep our healthy adoptable kittens (and pups) so that the public can help them socialize by visiting during open hours. The Community Adoption Center is currently open to the public from 12-4 on Wednesday, 1-

6 on Thursday, 12-4 on Friday and 11-3 on Saturday. Our hours change in the winter (usually in January) so please call us at 707-296-4629 to check that we are open before you come by. We often have puppies so if you’re looking to adopt a pup, please call ahead to check and see what we have. The puppies are available to visit during the same hours. We are more than happy to let adult visitors take the puppies on walks if they have time! Visiting is available to all ages, but anyone under 16 years of age needs to be accompanied by an adult guardian. All adult visitors need to provide a photo ID before entering the adoption room and please plan on leaving your photo ID with a staff person if you want to take our puppies for a walk.

Momma Isabelle is currently in a foster home while she patiently waits for her furever home.
This loving girl was dropped off at our adoption center with her kittens, after someone moved and abandoned them in Samoa.
Isabelle was an attentive young momma to her kittens. They are now being adopted, and Isabelle needs a quiet place where she can curl up in a lap and settle in. She is a tabby with white accents and a bit of dilute calico flair. She has beautiful markings, including a little white blaze on her nose, a regal snowy collar, and extravagant long white whiskers! She is a very affectionate cat, and loves to gaze into your eyes and give face bumps and kisses.
Isabelle was quite protective of her kittens, and was not fond of other cats at our adoption center. Hopefully without her kittens she could adapt to living in a home with another cat, but perhaps more ideally she would be a solo cat.
She is fully litter box trained, spayed, is up to date on vaccines, FIV/FELV negative, and will be microchipped before adoption.
Can you or someone you know please give her a solid, loving home?

Normally this box is full, but currently it is empty which means there are no adoptable dogs in foster. Do you have room in your home to change that? Fill out an application if you are interested in fostering!

Momma Isabelle needs a foster home or her forever home right away! She is currently in foster but that situation is ending very soon.
This loving girl was dropped off at our center with her kittens, after someone abandoned them in Samoa.
Her kittens are being adopted, and Isabelle needs a quiet place where she can settle in, at least for awhile. She is a very affectionate cat, and loves to give little kisses, but is not fond of other cats.
She was just spayed, and is up to date on vaccines, FIV/FELV negative, fully litter box trained, and will be microchipped before adoption.

Update: Sweet Chester has found an amazing home!

This is a courtesy post for a wonderful community member trying to find a home for this unique kitty.
Chester is a lovely four-year old exotic short-haired Persian tabby. This gentle guy is a bit shy in his new environment, but he is adapting nicely to his foster home. He longs for his furever home. His soft snores are sure to charm you!
Chester has had some urinary issues due to stress, but that has been resolved with the right diet and a relaxed environment. He will need a home that can address his special needs, ideally someone experienced with Persians. He would be best as an indoor only cat. It is uncertain how he would adapt to another cat in the home.
He is fully house trained. He is due for some vaccine boosters, which can be negotiated with his foster mom.
There is a rehoming fee to ensure that he gets a solid, sustainable home.

It's hard to believe this sweetheart cat has not found a home yet.
This stunning young mother Brooke is just waiting to meet you and melt your heart. :)
This dilute calico medium-haired girl is about a year old and so affectionate. All of her babes have been adopted. She is just waiting to meet you!
Brooke is FIV positive, but has no symptoms and can live a long, healthy life. Because of her FIV status she needs to be indoor only cat, and either the only cat in her home or she'd be perfect company for another FIV cat. She could likely adapt to a dog.
She is vaccinated, spayed, fully litter box trained, and microchipped.
There is an adoption fee for her.
You have the meet this sweetie to truly appreciate her!
Brooke is currently in a foster home. Please contact Liz at 707 496-9623 for more information or a meet and greet.

Our Story

We have two thrift stores located in Sunny Brae and in Blue Lake. The money raised in these stores helps us rescue and care for animals until we find permanent homes for them. We offer spay/neuter assistance for people on limited incomes, provide humane trapping methods for feral cats, run humane education programs, and a number of other services to the public.

All of our work, from adoptions to humane education, is aimed at alleviating animal suffering in Humboldt County by providing people with the knowledge needed to be responsible, compassionate caretakers for our animal companions. We believe that when you provide people with the means to make better choices, they make them!

DONATION GUIDELINES:

While we would love to accept all items, a staff member must look through incoming donations to ensure they will sell.
