TRRAC - Thoroughbred Retirement, Rehabilitation and Careers

TRRAC - Thoroughbred Retirement, Rehabilitation and Careers TRRAC is a 501(c)3 non-profit program that facilitates safe retirement of horses from horse racing. We have a horse for everyone!

TRRAC - Thoroughbred Retirement, Rehabilitation, and Careers is a thoroughbred aftercare program dedicated to providing dignified retirement, safety, and adoption to thoroughbred racehorses once they are retired from their racing careers. TRRAC places retired thoroughbreds in new, approved homes while offering proper downtime, retirement, retraining, and if need be, rehabilitation. TRRAC horses ar

e evaluated for soundness, mentality, and suitability in new careers while being trained as well as shown in events such as paper chasing, fox hunting, hunters, dressage, eventing, jumpers, and pleasure riding. All horses who come through our program are fully evaluated and are up to date on their vaccinations, shoeing, dental floats, and nutrition plans. We re-start our horses with professional trainers, with many achieving careers in upper-level showing. All our horses are offered permanent sanctuary at Maui Meadow Farm at any time they need to return. TRRAC currently offers training solutions for owners, as well as volunteer, showing, and riding opportunities. All horses are available to meet and ride by appointment. Another episode of ❤Humans Behind the Horses❤
I would like everyone to meet Judy! Her love and passion for these horses and animals is amazing.

"I first started volunteering with TRRAC in 2020 when Nina was kind enough to take a horse to Pocopson Nursing Home for the residents to see. I became the treat queen, showing up to spoil the horses. As a child, I would try and save any animal I found. I started in rescue with dogs in the 80's and still save senior, hospice and time-stamped dogs - I have fostered and saved hundreds. I have done farm work on and off for many years and jumped at the chance to come work for TRRAC in 2024 . Every horse that comes through has 100% been treated like it is my own - I am always giving lots of kisses and treats. My philosophy is that animals are better than people 😂. "

But don't be mistaken by her philosophy... she also has helped feed the homeless in Philadelphia for years ❤.

❤The Humans Behind the Horses❤
I would like everyone to meet Makayla! She is 15 years old and has been spending a lot of her free time volunteering for TRRAC. She is amazing with the horses and we appreciate her hard work and dedication so much!

"My name is Makayla. I met Nina early in 2025 when boarding my retired pony with her. I’ve always loved thoroughbreds and I loved meeting the horses who came in and out of the barn. I started volunteering in April. I love meeting and working with so many different horses and dedicating my time to horses that need it. I’ve ridden in competitive hunter/jumpers, dabbled in dressage and liberty as well as IEA. I bought my first horse in 2023, an unraced thoroughbred and he taught me so much. I am grateful to get the opportunity to work with such great horses and people."

A glimpse behind the scenes of TRRAC - behind the keyboard, the horses, loads of manure, adoption, the tears, the successes and failures, the time and dedication. We have a team of dedicated individuals that are truly in it, just for the love and well being of these horses. I want everyone to meet this team one by one.

My name is Melanie Olinik. Nina Bradley (our fearless leader) hired me to work for TRRAC a couple of years ago and my heart has been in it ever since. I grew up around horses, my mom competes, my parents live on a horse farm and my daughter (now 8 years old) started riding when she was 18 months old. Once I outgrew my pony, I went straight to a horse. My mom found an 8 year old OTTB at an estate sale. Ollie was my heart horse. That boy was a Thoroughbred through and through, but he would do anything asked of him and beyond until the day he died 2 years ago at 28 years old. He inspired me to work with Thoroughbreds and to adopt my 4 year old OTTB, Smokey. I didn’t know it was possible to love another horse as much as I loved Ollie. I am super grateful for my job, the people I work with, our volunteers and especially grateful for Thoroughbreds.

📸 The bay was my first horse, Ollie. The one picture is Ollie and my daughter at my brother's rehearsal dinner. The chestnut is my 4 year old OTTB. He was very curious during my wedding this September on my parents' farm.

Mine Run "Mine" (2020 Thoroughbred Gelding - RRP eligible)
Mine is another horse that is surprisingly still available for adoption. He is one of the kindest boys I have ever met. He is easy to handle and loves closing his eyes and having his face scratched while he rests his head in your arms. We lovingly call him "Mr. Tappy Toes" because he politely and silently taps his front hoof in the air when he's waiting for dinner and sometimes while he's eating. His front legs have some cosmetic lumps and bumps but he is sound and ready for his second career. We have figured out that he does best with 4 shoes, but has been an easy keeper.

Go to our website (www.OTTBS.org) for more information on Mine run and how to apply for adoption. Reach out to us via email ([email protected]) if you would like to set up a time to meet this puppy-like horse ❤.

Another update on a TRRAC Grad! "The Biggest One". This beautiful girl lives up to her name. I remember when she came to us a couple of years ago and I instantly fell in love. She was a little high strung in the beginning but quickly settled down and was adopted. So happy to see her thriving!- she looks phenomenal.

🥸 Fun Fact Friday

Did you know that when a horse looks like it's laughing, they're engaging in a special nose-enhancing technique known as "flehmen"?
The horse extends its neck, raises its head, and inhales as it rolls its upper lip back, displaying its front teeth. This activity helps determine if they smell something "good" or "bad". It may also be performed over a site or substance of particular interest to the horse.
Very dramatic in my opinion 😂, but definitely interesting and always funny to see.

📸 The photo - Taylor's Bridge aka Eddie is a recent TRRAC grad. He was being curious and sniffing the barn's atmosphere upon his arrival.
❤We would love to see pictures of your horses flehmen responses in the comments!

❤ Sanctuary Resident of the Day ❤
Liquid Aloha "Aloha"
In his racing career he had 20 starts, 5 wins and earnings of 8️⃣8️⃣,5️⃣4️⃣0️⃣.
Today, Aloha's "career" is a lot more tame than racing 😂. He travels across the coast as a truly amazing therapy horse. He gets love, pets, lots of treats and most importantly, he brings joy to a lot of people's lives! Aloha is a true testament to how special and versatile these Thoroughbreds are.

✨📕 Aloha takes bookings for events and therapy sessions. He enjoys dressing up for holidays and especially loves wearing a unicorn costume for the kids! He gets booked quickly, so please email us at [email protected] if you are interested in booking him!

We have a lot of new followers and would love to give everyone a little more insight about us!

Our slogan is, "Find Your Next Friend In A Thoroughbred” and at TRRAC, we truly believe that! At TRRAC, our organization is dedicated to the rehoming and retraining of off-the-track Thoroughbreds. These amazing horses, once celebrated for their speed and grace on the racetrack, have so much potential for so many different disciplines afterwards! TRRAC connects potential adopters with these extraordinary animals, offering a second chance for both horse and human to forge a meaningful bond. By adopting an OTTB, you’re not only gaining a new friend, but also supporting the humane transition of these horses into rewarding new roles. Visit our website www.ottbs.org to explore available horses, learn about the adoption process, and discover how you can make a lasting difference in the life of a Thoroughbred. As always, thank you so much to all of our supporters.
