🚨🐾 September 17 is National Pet Carbon Monoxide Safety Day 🐾🚨

Carbon monoxide (CO) is a colorless, odorless gas that can be just as dangerous for pets as it is for people. 🐶🐱 Because our pets are smaller, they can be affected even faster.

✅ Protect your pets (and family) with these simple steps:
🔹 Install CO detectors on every floor of your home.
🔹 Check and replace batteries regularly.
🔹 Never leave pets in running cars inside a garage.
🔹 Keep fuel-burning appliances well maintained.

Signs of CO poisoning in pets may include:
😴 Weakness or lethargy
😵 Drowsiness or confusion
🤢 Vomiting

If you ever suspect CO exposure, get everyone (including your pets) to fresh air immediately and seek emergency care.

At West Ridge Animal Hospital, your pet’s safety is always our priority—at home, outdoors, and everywhere in between. 💙

🌟 WOW — What a weekend! 🌟
Some of our West Ridge Animal Hospital team attended the Colorado Veterinary Medical Association 2025 Convention in Broomfield, CO (Sept 11–14), and came back with a wealth of knowledge to share with our patients and team. 🐾✨

They attended inspiring sessions led by some of the best in veterinary medicine, including:
🔹 Dr. Petra Cerna (Small Animal Symposium)
🔹 Dr. James Gaynor (Small Animal)
🔹 Dr. Gary Mason, Dr. Franklyn Garry, Dr. Kari Bevevino (Mixed Animal)
🔹 Dr. Ariel Fagen (Small Animal)
🔹 Jan Woods (Practice Efficiency)
🔹 Dr. Sam Hocker (Oncology)

We are so grateful to be part of the Colorado Veterinary Medical Association and to learn alongside so many brilliant, passionate professionals. Every lesson we bring back means better care for your pets. 💙🐶🐱🐴

💙🐾 Adopt a Less-Adoptable Pet Week 🐾💙

This week, we shine a light on the incredible pets who often get overlooked in shelters—senior pets, pets with special needs, shy pets, or those who simply look a little different.

These pets may take a little extra patience, but they give back tenfold with love, loyalty, and gratitude. 💕 Every pet deserves a chance at a forever home, no matter their age, size, or quirks.

If you’re considering adding to your family, we encourage you to think about adopting one of these amazing “less-adoptable” pets—you might just find your perfect match. 🐶🐱

Let’s chat about the importance of nutrition! For aviculturists of all levels, feeding a balanced diet to our psittacine species at home is valuable in order to provide our birds long and healthy lives. Parrots fed inappropriate diets are at risk of developing fatal diseases, such as atherosclerosis, hepatic lipidosis, reproductive disease, or cardiac disease to name a few. In many of these cases it all comes back to what we are feeding them in captivity – diets higher in fats, cholesterol, and omega 6 fatty acids. There’s a common misconception that these birds need primarily seed diets, but what many people do not realize is that most seeds lack basic vitamins and nutrients. Birds on seed-heavy diets often become obese, develop fatal diseases early in life, and require lifelong treatments to manage their symptoms. Because it is often difficult to recreate the natural diet parrots eat in the wild, we recommend combining formulated pellets made especially for parrots with fresh veggies, preferably organic, to ensure their main requirements are being met. Since food is often a way we bond with our birds, seeds can be used sparingly as treats for training and other fun enrichment activities! Of course, every bird comes with its special quirks and needs, so check out our new series with species specific bird care handouts!

Let our family care for yours

West Ridge Animal Hospital has been serving the animals of Northern Colorado since 1968. In 1978, West Ridge became the first American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA) accredited hospital in the area. Accreditation requires advanced medical facilities and practices, and voluntary inspection of our medical records and standards of patient care. West Ridge Animal Hospital remains the only full service American Animal Hospital Association-accredited hospital in Greeley and has recently achieved the highest level of accreditation available.

As a team, we come together to provide the most comprehensive, compassionate care available. We continue to grow to serve you and your pet’s every need.

We offer a wide variety of surgical and professional services for the well being of your pet. We strongly believe in preventative health care including routine health checks, diagnostic blood panels and vaccinations, to name a few. Consult your veterinarian about arthritic pain management, geriatric care, and behavioral problems. We encourage you to approach any of our professional staff with questions you may have regarding your animal companion.

We are proud to offer a number of digital radiographic services to complement standard diagnostic procedures. If your pet undergoes radiographic procedures, your veterinarian evaluates the x-rays. In addition, a board-certified veterinary radiologist reviews all digital radiographs taken at West Ridge Animal Hospital. Bring a CD-R along with you on your visit and we will gladly burn a disk of your companions x-rays.
