Rally Workshops

9AM-11AM: Excellent/Advanced Dual Ring Workshop
This workshop will feature an AKC Excellent ring and an AKC Intermediate/Advanced ring side by side to accommodate teams at different levels. You do not need to be familiar with Excellent to attend - Intermediate/Advanced students enthusiastically welcomed! We'll then do some group work to discuss and troubleshoot problem areas. Handlers will get to run their choice of course on the first run, while another team is warming up in the adjacent ring. We'll finish with handlers getting a chance to run a course again.

11:15AM-1:15PM: Skills and Drills.
A workshop for any one familiar with AKC Rally at any level who is looking to improve their dog's accuracy, teamwork, or stress level at trials. We will cover things like pre-run warm up at shows, practicing and proofing start line behaviors, working your dog with distractions in an adjacent ring, and addressing dogs who "stick" or move slowly on certain exercises. We'll also talk about how to effectively train Rally at home or in a class/match setting instead of just running courses in a "run through" format. While short sequences of coursework may be included, signs will not be explicitly taught - the goal is to add to your toolbox to train for best trial performance and troubleshoot on the fly while you are in the ring.

1:30PM-3:30PM: Intro to AKC Rally.
Designed for handlers who have no experience with AKC Rally and are looking to give it a try. Prior beginner/pet-style obedience including a sit, down, and a rudimentary wait/stay and on-lead recall are recommended. We will cover the "ground rules" for AKC Rally and learn a good portion of the AKC Rally Novice signs. All exercises will be on-leash but dogs MUST be comfortable working in a group setting. This course will not teach, nor does it require, a formal "heel." Suggestions for training at home will be incorporated.
