Since July 1st, we’ve welcomed 75 pets into our shelter through transfers from under-resourced communities for medical care and adoption, including:

9 from Twin Falls
9 from Burley
8 from West Valley Humane Society
6 from Mountain Humane
8 from Victor
5 from Minidoka

We also took in a group of displaced dogs from Texas, where recent river flooding forced shelters to clear space for incoming animals. These dogs were unowned and sent to rescue partners like us to help relieve the overwhelmed shelters.

Several of these dogs are now ready for adoption and waiting to meet you on our adoption floor. Stop by, say howdy, and help give them the fresh start they deserve.

Warning: Dangerous Heat Ahead—Protect Your Dog’s Paws

This week’s heat isn’t just uncomfortable—it’s dangerous. Pavement, concrete, artificial turf, running tracks, and brick surfaces can reach blistering temperatures capable of burning your dog’s paws in seconds—even when the air doesn’t feel scorching.

Your dog can suffer serious burns before you even realize the risk. If you wouldn’t walk barefoot on it, neither should your dog. Use the seven-second rule: place the back of your hand on the surface. If you can’t hold it there for a full seven seconds, it’s too hot for your dog.

To prevent painful, potentially irreversible injury:
-Stick to natural grass (artificial grass can trap dangerously high heat).
-Walk only in the early morning or late evening.
-Consider protective booties for added safety.

Please don’t take the risk. A short walk in the wrong conditions could land your pet in the emergency vet. Make the safe choice—your dog depends on you.

Skidder came to us at just four months old from an underserved community, battling parvo and a painful, broken leg. Despite the odds, he fought hard—and after surviving parvo, we transferred him into our shelter for surgery to repair his fractured radius and ulna. With time, rest, and rehabilitation in a loving foster home, Skidder has made a full recovery. Now this resilient pup is ready to leave his past behind and find a forever family to call his own. His foster family shares about him:

Skidder is a Velcro Dog! He is playful and loving, but loves a good nap time!! He excels with animals of all kinds and people of all ages. Although he is fragile, his little, lanky body suggests he would do best in a home with older children. His best friends are the cats and the dogs. He loves car rides and adventures... but despises being left home alone... so much so, he will escape and try to find you. This smart little boy can escape kennels...fences... sliding doors... and even attempts to take down and unlock doors. He would love a home full of play and fun, and someone who is home all the time. Being alone scares him. He just wants to cuddle in bed or on the couch as long as you're there.

Apply to adopt Skidder today or follow along with his adoption status: https://idahohumanesociety.org/adopt/pets-details/?aid=58525868&cid=41&tid=Dog

Olivia reached out to share her update with us:

"This is Boots!! When we adopted him his name was Ocean but he was wearing socks and took a liking to the word Boots so we kept it! We adopted him October 18th 2024 and he came to us scared and small, he is now so soft, so happy and the sweetest most adventurous cat. He loves his new life and is pampered by us everyday. When we first wake up he comes and lays on my chest until meowing for breakfast."

We think Boots is a perfect name for this handsome gentleman! Thank you for adopting.

When we first met Croissant, we noticed he was struggling with coordination and balance. With support from funding that helps homeless animals, we were able to diagnose him with Cerebellar Hypoplasia—a neurological condition affecting motor skills. We were transparent with potential adopters about his special needs, and we’re thrilled to share that none of it held him back. Croissant has officially found his loving forever home and is now living his very best life!

Thank you for supporting our lifesaving work! A $50,000 investment will enable us to continue helping pets in need, like pet Croissant, in our community.

This scam is on the rise again, please beware! ***Traducción al español a continuación.***

❌A scammer posts a puppy for sale on Facebook or other social media.
❌The buyer pays, expecting the puppy to arrive on a certain day.
❌Then, the scammer demands extra money for “insurance fees,” “crate rental,” or other made-up costs.
❌If the buyer refuses to pay, the scammer threatens them—claiming that animal control has seized the puppy or that the buyer could face charges for “abandonment” under a bogus law.

Victims have lost thousands of dollars to this scam! Many scammers are reporting Boise addresses, but in fact, are not here. Please report any suspicious activity to your local police department. Here's steps you can take to avoid this scam:

✅ ADOPT. Every pet adopted helps us save another in need, and bonus, they come vaccinated, microchipped, and complete with spay/neuter.
✅ RESEARCH breeders and meet them in person at their breeding facility. While we recognize that many breeders provide quality environments and prioritize responsible breeding practices, we strongly encourage anyone considering purchasing from a breeder to thoroughly research and support only those who demonstrate ethical and reputable standards. Visit their facility. Ensure the animals are treated with dignity and love. Far too often, we see people exploiting innocent lives for profit.
✅ GO SLOWLY: Be wary of sellers who refuse to meet or request payments via Zelle, Venmo, or gift cards.

If something feels off, STOP and research. Scammers are getting more convincing, but you don’t have to fall for it.

Here is a special post-adoption :

My husband Scott went and adopted the puppy Oliver a few days ago. He wanted to send you some photos. Everything is just going better than we could have expected. And my rottie who has been so sad after losing her bestie Oliver 2 months ago is now running around playing with our new Oliver. He gets along great with my adult autistic son as well! So far the potty training is so easy as well. He pees and poops immediately on the grass and then goes right back to sleep at night in his cage in our room! Thank you for rescuing such a happy sweet dog!

What a wonderful update! Thank you for sharing.

Meet sweet Smokey, one of the cats who benefits from your newspaper donations. This handsome boy is a friendly and playful companion who loves spending time with his humans! Like many kitties, he can be prone to overstimulation and would appreciate a calm, cat-savvy, and predictable home with no other animals or small children (12+). He is affectionate with his people, but also enjoys having time to himself. Learn more or come in to visit with him today: https://idahohumanesociety.org/adopt/pets-details/?aid=58587739&cid=41&tid=Cat
