When Eowyn arrived at our shelter as a stray, she was frightened and in pain, bleeding from her hind leg, and unable to put any weight on it. X-rays revealed a fractured tibia and fibula, along with a hernia that needed repair. Our veterinary team jumped into action, performing surgery and sending this brave little kitty to foster care for recovery and lots of TLC.

A month later, Eowyn's luck turned around—she found a loving forever home, and her new family renamed her Stella.

We recently checked in with Stella’s family, and a year later, she’s fully healed, completely spoiled, and living her very best life.

Stories like Stella’s are made possible because of you. Your donations fund medical care, foster support, and those magical happily-ever-afters. Thank you for helping us change lives.

Keep your pets safe this Fourth of July weekend! This time of year is notoriously busy for animal shelters across the country because so many pets become frightened by fireworks and run from their yards and homes.

Accidents can happen even with the best planning, so make sure that your pet’s identification tag has your most current contact information and is attached to a well-fitted collar. Update your pet’s microchip information if you’ve moved or changed phone numbers since it was implanted. These steps will make it much easier for your pet to find its way home!

Your pets will do best locked safely in the house when fireworks begin. Close windows and pull down the blinds to minimize the amount of chaos they can see and hear outside. Turning on the radio or TV and giving pets a special treat or toy to keep them distracted helps as well. Don’t be tempted to take pets with you to celebrations where crowds can add to their stress.

Pets who have made their way into our shelter will be listed on our website: https://idahohumanesociety.org/found-pet

We had 157 animals join their forever homes last week: 108 cats (86 kittens), 47 dogs, and 2 rats.

Charmie (in the middle) had a bit of a longer stay with us, as she had some restrictions on the type of home she needed. There couldn’t be any cats, and she needed to meet any future k9 siblings prior to going home to ensure they got along. She also needed a place with kids older than 10. Last week, after being available for a little over a month, all of her dreams came true!

Congratulations to all the animals who were adopted, and a big thank you to the families who brought them home. If you’re wanting to add a new best friend to your life, check out our adoptable animals by visiting our website.

Eight months. That’s how long 8-year-old Stallone has been in our care.

When a local shelter was contacted about a large group of cats left behind after their owner passed away, they reached out to us for help. We stepped in and took in 17 of those cats—Stallone was one of them.

From the start, Stallone needed extra care. He was struggling with severe nasal congestion, chronic ear infections, difficulty eating, and chronic discomfort. After months in foster care and several vet visits—including a trip to WestVet for a rhinoscopy and biopsy (thanks to a grant from Rachael Ray)—we finally got answers.

Stallone was diagnosed with chronic rhinitis, an autoimmune condition that causes ongoing inflammation in the nasal passages. This also affected his ears, leading to chronic inner ear infections that required specialized surgery (VBOs) to relieve his pain. At one point, he even had a feeding tube while his nasal congestion was especially severe—but through it all, this sweet boy never lost his spark.

Thanks to consistent care, Stallone is now stable and comfortable on long-term medications (every-other-day oral medication). He’ll likely need continued care for his condition as his nasal congestion can flare up at times—but he’s absolutely worth it.

Stallone is gentle, affectionate, and has been in good spirits every step of the way. He’s ready to trade in vet visits and foster homes for a soft bed, a warm lap, and a forever family. Could that be you?

When sweet Agatha was brought to our shelter, she weighed only 3.2 pounds. She was painfully thin, her fur was matted and dirty, and her tiny body showed signs of severe muscle wasting. We didn’t know much about her at first, but we knew she deserved a second chance.

As we began to unravel her story, a tiny miracle surfaced — a microchip traced back to the Idaho Humane Society, implanted all the way back in September 2007. That meant Agatha was nearly 18 years old.

We conducted tests and discovered the cause of her condition: hyperthyroidism, a treatable condition with proper medication and care. And so began her journey of healing.

For nearly two months, our team showered her with gentle affection, nutritious food, and the medical care she so desperately needed. Slowly, Agatha gained weight. Her eyes grew brighter. Her fur softened. And her spirit, once dimmed by neglect, began to shine.

Now, this incredible senior cat is ready for her next chapter — a cozy home, a warm bed, and someone to love her for the rest of her golden years.

Agatha is living proof that every life matters and that it’s never too late for a new beginning. Will you be the one to give her the loving retirement she so richly deserves?

Kenai was found as a stray, so we don’t know much about his past—but during his time with us, he’s proven to be a calm, friendly little guy who loves lounging under his heat lamp and munching on tasty treats. Bearded dragons like Kenai make fascinating and interactive pets, but they do require a fair amount of specialized care to stay healthy and happy.

If you’re considering adopting a bearded dragon, here are a few important things to keep in mind:

Temperature control: They need a warm, dry environment with a basking spot of around 95–110°F and cooler areas to regulate their body temperature.

UVB lighting: A proper UVB light is essential for calcium absorption and bone health.

Daily spot cleaning: Their habitat needs regular cleaning to keep things hygienic.

Diverse diet: Bearded dragons need a balanced diet of fresh greens, vegetables, and insects like crickets or dubia roaches.

Space and enrichment: They require a spacious enclosure and enjoy things to climb on, bask under, and explore.

Lifespan: With proper care, bearded dragons can live 10–15 years, so they’re a long-term commitment.

Kenai is ready to find a forever home with someone who’s up for the rewarding challenge of reptile care. Could that be you?

Howdy, partners. The name’s Hank. Hank the (Almost) Cowdog.

I might not have a ranch to patrol or a pack of coyotes to chase off (yet), but I do have a big heart, a nose for adventure, and a soft spot for a good game of tug.
Life’s thrown me a few curveballs lately—I was surrendered by my last folks, and I’m still figuring out this new chapter. So, yeah, I might be a little shy at first. Gentle, too. But don’t let that fool you. Underneath this quiet exterior is a curious cowboy just waiting to find his new trail crew (that’s you).

I get along fine with other dogs, and I’m mighty polite with people once I warm up. I’ve been told I’m not cut out for apartment living—this cowboy needs a bit more space to stretch his legs and sniff the breeze. And if you’ve got treats, belly rubs, or a tug toy? Well, I reckon we’ll be best friends in no time.

So if you’re looking for a loyal companion with a tender soul and a cowdog’s courage (in training), come meet me, Hank. I’m ready to ride off into the sunset with you!
