Post-calving represents the greatest nutritional demand for a beef cow.
During this period she must lactate, repair her reproductive tract, resume heat cycles, breed and, if she is a young cow, she must continue to grow and develop. She requires a high energy and protein diet of at least 62% total digestible nutrients and 11% crude protein. If her requirements are not met, she will lose body condition and may not rebreed.
