My heart is so full! I got to ride with this little sweetie today. It flooded me with memories of both my babies who rode for hours with me, napped with me while riding…. To have a little sidekick cooing the entire ride again was pretty special 🥰. And of course Scotchy was a rockstar!

SPECIAL NOTE FROM OUR STORYTELLER, Mrs. Herwick:

Dizzy Jay Farm was a little more ‘fragrant’ than usual Tuesday with gassy goats and Walter’s puppy chow for snacks. 🤭 IYKYK😉 In an attempt to expedite the registration process for Readin’ and Ridin’, this is the ‘official’ registration post; please comment here with the number of child attendees. Thank you to those who preregistered today for July 15! Just a reminder, you must register your child before noon on Friday, July 11 to ensure craft supplies and snacks on July 15th. Also, we are in need of 50 toilet tissue rolls for next week’s craft. They may be dropped off at the farm, or I am happy to pick them up. Thank you for your help! You are appreciated!

Today, I asked Emma to grab Sandy while I lifted her over the electric fence. In typical Emma fashion, she rushed to my assistance. Sandy was feeling less cooperative and showered Emma with mud from her little hooves 🤪. We proceeded to hysterically laugh and tease Emma the rest of the day! Thanks for always being a good sport, Em 💙.

Do you believe in coincidences? I don’t, and my meeting the Gustafson family is just one example! I first interacted with Olivia’s dad when I saw a gorgeous buckskin mare posted for sale, she was a stunning creature that looked full of potential. We had a mutual friend so I assumed Neil wasn’t a scammer. As we chatted I learned not only was he not a scammer, my in-laws are good friends with his in-laws. We struck an agreement that in exchange for putting time on the family’s Thoroughbred, we would get Oakley. We met the whole family and were impressed by each one. Fast forward a few months and Olivia messaged me to see if I needed any summer help. I agreed, letting her know it would be part time work. She helped me all summer and winter with amaing work ethic, patience, and a positive attitude. Now we are doing our best to make her a year-round full time employee. And this talented young woman is now helping to further the training of Oakley, the golden mare who started it all. I think people come into our lives for a reason, and we are certainly grateful to have met the Gustafson’s and to have them as part of our crew!

Girl Boss Mama Confession: Being a wife, mother, and business owner is CHALLENGING. It’s absolutely rewarding and a worthwhile endeavor, but I’d be lying if I didn’t tell you that days are long, nights can be lonesome, and the To Do List is ever-lengthening. I see a lot of content really promoting Girl Boss culture with the idea that women can do it all. We in fact, cannot. Don’t get me wrong, a woman is crazy capable and can accomplish amazing things! She is able to do anything she sets her mind to, but she is not able to do everything at once. If you watch me in the summer season when business is booming, my house is a disaster, my kids eat more readymade meals than any other time of the year. My husband does all the laundry because he knows I will have it on the back burner and he’ll get smelly. If I am working at being wife of the year, cooking from scratch and cleaning, the barn will be a mess, emails/texts/phone calls will be missed, and I might be late on getting a feed order in. It’s ok to not be able to do all things at all times! If you are a woman entrepreneur like me, I pray that you will give yourself some grace. I am so grateful that I have fabulous staff, including Ms. Brie who keeps the house clean in the summer, workers who ensure that grains are being delivered to horses in a timely manner, a husband who brings home dinner and does the laundry, and AMAZINGLY understanding clients who give me grace when I mess up. Feeling grateful for all the blessings we have! PS. I didn’t even do my hair in this picture, it was masterfully fixed by Amelia at Northern Style and Company.
