9 years ago today on the south west coast of Ireland, Sarah and I got married in front of Minard Castle on the Di**le Peninsula. It feels like a lifetime ago and it feels like yesterday. Can't wait to be going back there with Gwen for the first time less than two weeks from now!

One of these chickens can be trusted to free range responsibly. Two of these chickens have fluff for brains and can barely be trusted to eat safely. Can you tell which are which?

Last week we taught our first camp with ! Sarah put together and taught an amazing curriculum. 3x4hr days: chicken day, goat day, and sheep day. Each day, the 8-12 year old campers learned all about a new kind of animal and how to be a good friend to them. Everything from how to conduct a health check to coming up with and testing out ideas for enrichment with some of our ambassador animals.

I'm never surprised but always impressed how amazing Sarah is when she's teaching kids, especially in this age group. She's such a natural for inventing and leading activities, games, and play.

I was equally impressed with Gwen, who was an amazing TA for the class. Summer has been a bit of a struggle for us in terms of managing such an insane extrovert but she really thrived with the responsibility and social dynamics of being a TA for a camp.

Overall great success and we're looking forward to doing it again next summer.

Ballydídean aims to promote animal welfare, ethical land stewardship, and positive community building

Founded by the Santosa family in 2018, Ballydídean Farm Sanctuary is something that Sarah and Ansel dreamed of starting since they were 15 in high school. Many have never met farm animals; particularly not those who were kept in non-production conditions and have misconceptions about the behavior or characteristics of those animals. Those misconceptions are often used as excuses for treating farm animals different from pets.

We want to adopt animals out of production conditions and give them happy, peaceful lives. And we want to give others access via community or educational events to help build a sense of empathy towards these animals, especially in children.
