Haha, If you ever want to learn how to hook and tail a venomous snake I strongly suggest you start with a stick horse and stuffed animal 😂

Rather than wasting your money—and potentially building a false sense of security—with snake “repellents,” making your property less appealing to snakes and/or making them easier to spot is a much safer and smarter approach.

Keep your grass cut short, trim shrubs high enough that you can see underneath them, and consider using dark mulch in areas where snakes may be encountered. The contrast can make a rattlesnake or copperhead stand out much more than it would in tall grass or leaf litter.

You can’t make your property completely snake-proof, but you can make it less attractive to them and safer for you.

These folks thought they had a rattlesnake in their garage, they did not. But they did have a non-venomous western coachwhip in their garage. Great snake to have around!

Ground cover plants like this one provide shade and protection from the elements during a hot day. IF you need to tend to your garden, watch where you put your hands and feet and don’t reach or step somewhere you can’t see the ground.
