🌈May we find you in the stars, Mona.
Yesterday morning, Mona showed some slight improvements. But by the day's end, multiple organ systems were failing. She could not stand, did not want to eat, and her neurological symptoms worsened. It was time. Anything we put into keeping her alive at that point was for us, not her.
Mona needed one final goodbye visit, though.
Animal care director, Meg, loaded Mona's ride or die, Tina, up and drove Tina to the vet hospital. Tina has likely been with Mona for her entire life and they are rarely without each other.
Tina stayed by Mona's side as she was sedated and given the final act of kindness.
It is likely Mona had terminal cancer but we do not have confirmation on this.
Sanctuary work is grief work. And it is hard. We put so much love, energy, and care into helping the animals here thrive. It comes at a cost. But it is such a great honor to walk side by side with the individuals here.
Supporters covered all of Mona's hospital bills.
Thank you to the medical team at for everything you did for Mona.
